Anyone know of an extension that gives you a bookmark bar like Firefox? I'm trying out chrome because Firefox has been so buggy lately. I find it really annoying and surprising that chrome would not include such basic fundamental functionality as a bookmark tab or list (which doesn't require going into a menu three levels deep on the edge of the screen).

Ctrl+shift+b

No. That just shows a bookmark toolbar at the top, which only shows the first dozen or so bookmarks unless I delete all the bookmark labels which I do not want to do. I do not want a row of bookmarks under my address bar. I want one button on the address bar which pops down a menu of all my bookmarks like every other browser in existence has.

Because i've always used the Bar, i didn't know until you mentioned it that there isn't one solitary way to do what you ask. It's totally ludicrous! 'Use the Bookmark Bar or else', seems to be the message from Google here.

If you don't mind giving up a little screen real-estate, you could enable the Bar and just have all your Bookmarks in one Folder on the Bar. If you choose to nest Folders within that you can, i.e if you like to keep Bookmarks categorised like i do. Then, if when you want a drop down list of all your Bookmarks you just click on the Folder you created.

If its easy to show bookmarks you want using Google chorme, just follow this simple steps.

step1
open google chrome

step2
ctrl+shift+o

step3
you can now click and browse the list of all your bookmarked sites.
(note: double click any site in the list to open on a new tab)

I hope this helps.

Something like this?

That's just from a quick search on the webstore. I'm guessing there are more like it.

Personally, I find the bookmarks bar with the labels deleted far more convenient. Sure, it takes up a row of screen space but it's one click access.

I've just been through them all, and although the one you linked to is the best of the bunch they all miss the mark really. It does do what the OP wants but it's a little lacking and not very polished.

Edit: Having said all that, Neat Bookmarks is almost spot on the money! I find the window to be a little wide and everything a little slow to animate but otherwise it's not bad at all!

Do you reuse tabs heavily? Because I do not, and every time I hit Ctrl+t for a new tab, my bookmarks bar is there (with all my bookmarks nicely nested in folders where I organized them), but as soon as I click on one of them to open the site, the bar goes away automatically.

Not exactly what you're asking for, but reusing your tabs is the only use case where what you're asking for makes sense over just using the default bookmarks bar in this manner. I know it comes down to personal preference over almost everything else, but I'm a vertical space fanatic (probably the main reason I switched over to Chrome a long time ago was because it's so much more efficient with vertical space) and this works fine for me.
