Yeah, the lack of 5ghz WiFi is disappointing.

On my 2.4ghz network, performance varies from 2Mbps to 12Mbps tops. On 5ghz, I get a consistent 40-44Mbps.

I'll just hold my breath and hope for the best.

Anyone else run into the issue where pausing a video for a few minutes and then trying to resume it causes it to freeze up?

Anyone know why I might be having trouble casting from my desktop? I'm hardwired, that has to be fine, right? I downloaded the app to set it up but it's telling my Wi-Fi is off. So I went to a laptop and setup the chromecast, it's working fine casting from my phone. But I still don't see any cast button from chrome on my desktop. Am I missing something obvious?

You need to install Google Cast from the Chrome app store.

Not sure if this has been discussed but is there any logical reason why Google went with Chrome instead of Android?

Because this is just like Chromebook, uses Google's servers to run, doesn't need much power at all, a mobile OS of any kind would obviously need more power.

Probably two reasons. One, they think that in-browser applications is the future, and that the more rich they can make their browser OS now, the more of a lead they have over the competition.

Two, they are a company that loves to collect data for advertising purposes. They also have a much tighter rein on Chrome than Android. By doing this they also get users to run Chrome on everything that can control/push content to Chromecasts, and also get users to use YouTube more on their televisions (more ad revenue).

They aren't selling these at such low margin simply out of the goodness of their hearts. It's the perfect move for a services company like Google and a win-win for them and consumers so long as you don't mind the potential data mining and ads within Google's services, which you already deal with if you use anything in Google's product portfolio.

Google is determined to live out Netscape's dream of the browser being the OS.

One thing about the stick is it boosts Chrome OS numbers overall.

As Steve Jobs would say, does it just work? Is it easy to use since everything is cloud-base?

more or less. netflix and youtube are pretty much perfect. small delay for pausing and stoping. switching apps is like a 20 sec wait time.

I did tab sharing playing a mkv mile locally. delay from my screen, but the image and audio were perfect.

have not tried full screen sharing with a video, from what i read audio doesnt transfer atm.

I picked one of these up earlier today.

Netflix looks fantastic and has 5.1 audio with Chromecast plugged into my receiver.

Sending google music to it works well, too.

Streaming a tab doesn't work as well, but once more video content sources support this (assuming that happens) it will be great.

It's got me thinking about a new nexus 7 to be my remote..

For me, I still have the issue where if I leave a video paused for a long time and then play it again, it often just hangs after resuming. And I can't press the stop or play button on Android to get it it moving again. But if I tap the progress bar, then I can "pause" it again (even though it's already stopped) and then press Play again and then it starts playing.

Also was playing a really long podcast tonight. And after playing fine for 40 minutes it stopped with the spinning circle, I assuming it's buffering, and after about 10 seconds it started playing again. The video was only 720p, and the wifi router is in the same room. It did that a second time on the same video about 10 minutes later too.

It's easy to use, but I seem to be running into a lot of quirks playing back YouTube videos with this so far.

I have not run into any problems regarding playback. I just wish there were more content providers out right now with apps. Other than that great device.
