quit running windows..

i can fully load any 1080p stream, in opensuse

Until it's an HTML5 video. They don't work in Linux. I forget the whole story, something stupid like licensing or DRM or some crap like that. Thankfully there are not that many HTML5 videos though. It's too bad, since I would love to see HTML5 being a fully open source thing, but of course corporations have to screw with it and make it proprietary.

But yeah Youtube sucks more and more these days.

Mobile apps seem to work better, are there any such apps for desktop that work in Linux by chance?

Actually, every time someone posts a mobile link to a youtube video I can't watch it here at work. The corporate lockdown to Internet Explorer 8 with all sorts of fun firewall crap breaks the mobile stuff entirely.

Youtube had gotten near unusable for me until I blocked the XO mirrors and that worked great for a while. Then that sucked even worse (most videos just errored out). Removed it, and streaming has been actually perfect since with barely running into any buffering issues.

Oh, I found if I set it to 720p it'll continue to buffer even if I pause it, which is pretty great. I'll get a few different videos buffering then go make dinner or something, then when I come back the videos are all totally buffered. I can usually directly stream a single 720p without issue, sometimes even buffer one while streaming a second.
