Looks like there's a bit of controversy what Google does with your files and if they own your files.

This is the TOS in question.

"When you upload or otherwise submit content to our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content."

Considering Google is an Ad company, you may want to explore what they may do with your information.
People really need to stop spreading FUD.
These cloud servicing companies all have the same ToS that Google has.

If you have OCD about Google's ToS, then you shouldn't be using anything "cloud", period.

dropbox has been around for a few years and icloud/dropbox have a lot of app integration. until google drive gets this it will be a geek curiosity and nothing more
Not sure what that has to do with the person's assertion I quoted that mentioned Google is 5 years late to the party.
When iCloud launched 6 months ago, I don't know of anyone that said they were 4-5 years late to the party either.

i have 10.8GB with dropbox, 25GB with skydrive, and now 5GB with google drive. likely still will stick w/ dropbox for now. I'd like to just use google since I already am pretty much set up for it. But I'm really likely the mobile dropbox instant camera upload over google's. Mostly because it puts it where I want it instead of going straight into g+. I feel like google really needs to revamp how they are tying all their services together

and then the question becomes, why switch? if dropbox is working for me why should i switch to google drive?

Google integration into Android, like all other Google services.

I currently have 25.88GB with Dropbox completely free.
I haven't jumped onboard with Google's cloud service yet because I currently have more GB with Dropbox and Google may not have implemented "integration" properly yet since this is a new service. Maybe in a year or two, I'll consider activating my cloud account with Google.

If I max my 25.88GB at Dropbox(which I probably never will), then I may consider using the 25GB I have with SkyDrive or activating my Google Drive.
Until then though, I will continue to use Dropbox.

How do I get excited about this when I get 25GB free from Redmond, and another 15GB from 4shared? Yawn...

BTW, I have an Android phone, but I'm not going to chew through my data plan using Google Drive to sync files on my phone.

I never said Google did it for sure. I said users may want to look into it.
Why do you believe users may want to look into the ToS of Google Drive specifically, but not that of Dropbox, SkyDrive, or iCloud?
Because Dropbox, Microsoft, and Apple don't make any money from ads?

Umm... Am I missing something? Do the other services use less bandwidth?

Nothing is forcing you to sync the files to your phone, you still have to set them Offline if you want them on the phone. And not all of us care about data usage, I'm still grandfathered into an unlimited data plan so that never even popped into my head.

Except you said it like the issues with the TOS was unique to GoogleDrive. Or did we misinterpret your post?

MotionMan

I was just reporting what the article said. This is about signing up for a new service and I just wanted to make people aware of it.

You said, "Considering Google is an Ad company, you may want to explore what they may do with your information."

So you were not just reporting what the article said. You added your own commentary, and you said it like the issues with the TOS was unique to GoogleDrive.

Interpret however you want if it makes you feel better.

Just curious, but do you think there's anything substantially different in the way Google treats your data compared to Apple, Microsoft and the others?

I was not interpreting anything. You said something specific about GD as if it is unique in some way. You were asked about it and, rather than either admit you were singling out Google, or admitting you use poor wording, you seem to be defending your position or attempting to deflect criticism.

If you did not mean to single out GD, then say so. If you did mean to single out GD, then defend your position.

You asked if you misinterpreted my post and I'm telling you that you did.

So what you intended to say was something like:

"Considering Google, Dropbox, Microsoft, and Apple are all companies who want to make a profit, you may want to explore what they may do with your information."

Gotcha.
