Google Glass: You can't resell or "loan out" your used Google Glass

From the Google Glass Terms of Service:

“you may not resell, loan, transfer, or give your device to any other person. If you resell, loan, transfer, or give your device to any other person without Google’s authorization, Google reserves the right to deactivate the device, and neither you nor the unauthorized person using the device will be entitled to any refund, product support, or product warranty."

That expensive toy you're thinking about getting... still sounding good?

Personally, I hope that this is just for the pilot group to keep the ebay profiteers away. But who knows.

i'm sure that's why this is in place, can't imagine it sticking around for a mass release device.

Why would you expect anything different? This isn't release hardware, there is no reason it should be outside the hands of developers.

Not surprised this was put in place. So the device is tied up to a persons google account and recording goes to the cloud. Someone else using it, deactivates the device.

In other news, completely unsubstantiated BS. More at 11.

Here, let me substantiate that somewhat for you.

The terms of sale do indicate that Google will place at least some resale restrictions on Glass at general availability. The restrictions we quoted above came in a "Device Specific Addendum" that applies to the Glass Explorer Edition. In an earlier paragraph apparently referring to all versions of Glass, Google says, "You may not commercially resell any Device, but you may give the Device as a gift, unless otherwise set forth in the Device Specific Addendum." Thus, it sounds like people who buy the glasses at general availability later this year won't be forbidden from lending or giving the device away. Google also makes no mention of remotely deactivating the device except in the addendum specific to the Explorer edition (and in an unrelated section regarding lost devices).

Better?

It's a device that requires an application process and approval to be a part of. Part of the terms will obviously have language telling you that you can't circumvent the approval process... ie selling the device to somebody else. I also feel this Google Glass thing is kind of stupid and it's all been a fiasco, but everybody needs to quit Google bashing for the sake of it. Getting upset about this is just grasping at reasons to be mad.

Personally, I think smart watches are more stupid than Google Glass.
But both are still pretty stupid IMO.

How can it be a fiasco when it's not even released yet?

Even if they cancelled it at this point it wouldnt really count as a fiasco.

Pardon my ignorance but how do these work on those who already wear prescription glasses or sun glasses?

Theres a tinted glass or clear glass visor that comes with the pack I think.

I guess you can just get prescription visors, I cant see any technical reason why not anyway.

I'm pretty sure I read that you will be able to take them off and attach them to other glasses.
