Google Hangouts Question

I finally decided to switch from Google Voice to Hangouts for SMS. Outside of the Android App, I am not able to add the phone number from a SMS as a new contact via either desktop gmail, google hangouts or the chrome hangouts app.

Any trick or is it just not possible? Like the GV interface much better but no MMS.

The best tact I've found to use with hangouts, is to ditch my carrier number completely and have my contacts use my google voice #. I can them txt from the device app or my desktop fairly seamlessly. Far as I know you should be able to add/edit numbers and contacts with the google Contacts page.

I made the switch a few months back and don't regret it at all. I never paid attention how to add a contact... I don't see a quick add to contacts either.... Never tried it before myself.

I do use my GV number but using Hangouts as my SMS default, non-contacts show-up as a phone number and unless I use my phone, I can't add them as a contact via desktop(brower/app). I prefer using GV but no MMS so that's why I finally switched.

Short of manually adding them as a Google Contact with name/number I don't think there is a quick way to do it. I just poked at a txt in hangouts from a number not on my contact list on my phone and wasn't able to get anywhere with it. Once they are added there will be some lag before your devices sync your addition too. Hangouts is still becoming but it's getting better.

You can from the phone. You need to touch the three dots in the upper right hand of the message window -> select People & Options -> at the bottom, Touch to add to contacts.

Just can't do it any other way though.

Google hangout really is cool. Easy to use, manageable and convenient.
