I do wonder where this GS4 Nexus will go in the long term. Seems temporary for me. Maybe a one shot. Who knows if Samsung is still king next round? Google is acknowledging the success of the Nexus device, but how long til device manufacturers realize that Nexus sales are threatening their own product lines? Somehow I don't see this strategy continuing unless they make sure Nexus phones are isolated in a separate design of by using high pricing. I don't mind them selling $649 phones if they're flagship monsters in the future.

Yeah. I'm going to wait I think. Either way I'm paying full price for a handset. The question is whether we get removable battery and mSD on this GS4 Nexus or not. If so I'm pretty much sold on it.
This is being touted as a SGS4 running Google pure. They haven't given any indication yet that they'll be removing the mSD slot.

I feel as stupid as the dumb Apple fans who salivate over phones. TBH it happens to us too. Dumping our 6 month old N4s for a $650 handset? Heh.
I don't know why people would have thought this was an Apple fan specific thing. Every year, when I was using Windows Mobile devices, I'd look at new hardware and be like 'oooh, I've got to have that!'. Everyone does it.

I guess the benefit to the Apple cycle is that you at least know you're going to be waiting a year before you have to start worrying about it.

I'm going to hope this begins a new trend. Where not only Samsung, but HTC, Motorola, LG and Sony all offer a stock experience for those that care.

For subsidy markets the actual device in G store is not the big news, it's the choice of Samsung or Google ROM. Very nice move by Samsung.

As a N4, budget conscious owner, a $650 S4 doesn't appeal to me, especially with the N5 less than 6 months away but it's a nice option for TW haters.

I have a question regarding Chromebooks. Are you able to develop in them or not? Say you wanted to develop an Android app. Is that possible at all?

Well I feel like I'm in the shut up and take my money mindset now with some of these products. Heh. Something we used to make fun of Apple fans for specifically. But you're right. There's dumb consumers everywhere who go by marketing.

The issue is what do you think will change in the N5? Maybe they give you quad A15s. Great. Is it going to sway me? I don't know. Is the S600 that bad?

Do you think Google will churn out a better camera solution than the S4? Unlikely. The S4 reigns supreme this time around. For those who like hardware buttons, you get it with the S4. LTE is addressed here. Maybe a better screen? Battery life improvements?

New dedicated Hangouts app? "services are fragmented and restricted, so we made another dedicated chat app" ??
In addition to Gmail and Talk (and Phone and SMS too really)?

Yeah... so is SMS integrated into Hangouts? That's what I was hoping for, and it really doesn't look like it is. I'm going to flip out. :l

The best part about this is that all the sensors and the IR LED in the Galaxy S4 will be supported by AOSP soon. This was my number one concern and it's now relieved.

Or the fact that the camera will be tweaked for best performance.

I just kissed my S4. All doubts I had about getting it over the HTC One just got erased.

For me, the S4 is 35% better phone than N4 but at twice the cost.
Assuming Nexus stays in the same price range, I'm inclined to upgrade annually without necessarily selling existing units, keeping them as backups. It isn't just about affordability, financially I could absorb the loss at annual $650 upgrades but I would rather dodge the Samsung tax, especially after being spoiled with the N4 value.

Again, S4 is an amazing phone, I would argue the AOSP version is the top Android phone or will be when it arrives this summer. However tech ages fast, S5 will surpass the S4 and I expect the N5 to slot in between them. SoC alone isn't a reason to upgrade, I need to know what else changes. If I had to decide now, if the N5 improves upon the N4 anywhere near as much as N4 did over the GNex, I'm sold.

It's real and it's spectacular.

It does strengthen my suspicion that this winter's Google model will be a budget Nexus 4i and not an A15 spec monster.

Sucks that we have to wait so long for the stock S4, I want it now!
