Google Maps Screwup. You Must Read Japanese if you want to lookup Japan

WTF? Google Maps

The Japanese characters would be totally acceptable in Japanese versions of Google Maps, otherwise it just plain sucks for us here in the United States. Hey? Were is Tokyo?

I tried to get directions to there from Chicago and they "couldn't calculate driving directions". I guess Google isn't so powerful after all, is it?

Nah, they are still OK, because it is impossible to drive from Chicago to Japan unless you have a "Jesus" car that is able to drive on the water.

I'm sure including flight information to get from Chicago to Tokyo will be included in a future release.

Lookup Egypt. Even though the official language of Egypt is Arabic, the maps are still written in English.

I am not being unreasonable. Very few people outside of Japan can read Kanji

On the other hand, Microsoft's Live Maps is even more extreme. It shows all the geographical names translated into English except for Japan...

check the MS Maps

Every country get a phonetic English Translation of the names on the map with the exception of Japan.

edit: Maybe a new system google is working with seeing how japan has 3 different systems of their language. It would make since to use Romaji for foreigners then Hiragana/Katakana for native japanese, kanji is like eww.

I know how to find Tokyo. Still, my point is that right now Google Maps and Microsoft Maps for that matter are pointless if you want to use it to lookup Japan and its major cities.

Anyway, here is even bigger case against the MS Maps. and it is even more acute that with Google Maps. Again, what is the point of this?
