Nougat isn't that exciting because several "new" features other manufacturers had already implemented in their phones (ex: split-screen mode).

I am prepared to be underwhelmed.

i might even be interested if it had an sdslot. but knowing google it won't. They think the cloud is the perfect solution when you are on a plane.

My HTC One A9 has an SD slot and it's empty. I think more people don't care about missing SD slots than those who do.

Being on a plane is easy to deal with though. You just cache/download whatever you need before you get on said plane. Problem solved. mSD comes in handy when you unexpectedly need something and have unreliable data service or a cap to worry about.

I really hope the leaked renders we're seeing aren't real, because they're ugly. No flagship phone in 2016 should have bezels the size of an iPhone's. It's only acceptable if it's got dual front facing speakers or something, but even then it should still be thinner.

Or at least, put the fingerprint reader on the front... but then the Pixel would probably look a little too much like an iPhone.

I don't think the design is the end of the world, though. If you looked at tech forums, you'd think that bezel size was the most important factor in every phone purchase... well, no, it's not. It's not the most flattering design, but let's see what the Pixel series is like for most people before we declare it "ugly."

I quite like the idea of the fingerprint reader on the back. I've not tried one there but it looks more convenient for one handed use.

I was hyped for the Pixel XL but if these leaks are correct that is like a worst case scenario. It looks like a chinese iphone clone. And they had to downgrade the screen to 5.5" to make sure they did as little as possible to differentiate it.

I prefer it on the front, having used both. The big problems with a back-mounted reader: you can't use it while your phone is on the desk, and you have to find it by feel. Front readers do tend to require extra space on the front, but then the S7 is proof that it doesn't need to be huge (I don't think the iPhone's use is egregious).

It's just perfect for the hipster socialite that never strays far from his loft in <insert city here>. If you've ever gone camping, gone somewhere where there's no coverage and/or reception, or been in (or possibly work) some kind of signal dampening building, then you understand the need for local storage.

My HTC One A9 has an SD slot and it's empty. I think more people don't care about missing SD slots than those who do.

For awhile I was lucky enough to have wifi at work, and it wasn't a long commute from home where I had wifi again. Wifi is so convenient and easy for most end users, so we should just drop mobile data as the next feature from our phones!

"Most people" drive the speed limit in the left lane. You don't want to be any part of "most people."

I don't tend to ever use my phone whilst it's flat on a desk so that's not really a problem for me.
I'd imagine that you'd learn where the back sensor is pretty quickly so that it would be an automatic action you could do without changing your grip unlike a front one where you have to swing your thumb down or use your other hand.

I'm pretty happy with my 6P still, one that would get me to upgrade would be if they sped up the HDR shots a bit. They turn out really well but tend to be a bit slow, especially in low light.

If those image leaks are accurate, all I could say is 2013 will be calling, wanting its design back.

Hah - I thought I was the only one who found the renders pretty dull. Obviously in hand might be different than images (6P being a good example).

According to Carphone Warehouse, the Pixel and Pixel XL will feature microSD card slots, but it’s likely that this is an error. In general, all of these specs are still subject to change until Google reveals the official spec sheets tomorrow.

It may be ugly with the big bezels but if the Pixel XL is a little smaller than a 6P with a Snapdragon 821 and better camera, I'll be getting it. Find that my 6P(5X was unusable) lags a lot when trying to take a lot of pics in HDR+. If by some chance it has a microSD slot than it would awesome but will probably end up with the 128gb and supposedly with the Pixel phones - Google Photos will provide unlimited storage for full-resolution photos. Currently, paying $2/month for 100gb of storage.

And the vast majority of users will wind up putting a case on the phone no matter how beautiful/horrific it looks...

I guess we know what sells now at least. As long as it looks good, people want it.

I think it looks fine, but I would have liked to see the fingerprint reader on the front bottom bezel area personally.

Why does it surprise you that people care about the aesthetics of something that primarily exists to be looked at?

Look at TVs:

Bezel minimization is the difference between an aged looking device and a modern, sleek one. The newer TVs look so much better, and people don't even handle them with their hands every day like they do phones. Minimal bezels gets you a bigger screen size in the same overall dimensions, which is both very noticeable, and an advantage. And it also happens to make a phone look like a modern handheld computing machine, rather than some aged tech. I honestly don't see how you can't understand that.

When the iPhone 8 (or 8S if they can't manage it in time) comes out with TouchID embedded underneath the display and the bezels shrink, everyone who isn't saying it now will finally admit that the old iPhones did indeed have too much bezel.

Fixed that for you.

I spend a lot more time using my phone than admiring it.

Not very hyped that the pixel xl and smaller variant is made by HTC. I've had all the HTC phones and got sick if them. This one looks like an iPhone honestly. I don't get what is up with the back panel how it's somewhat of a different color.

Also not happy about the price of $649 for the smaller 32gb phone. Means the xl would be much more.

I'd like to get the newest because I really enjoy the Nexus devices but I think I may hang on to my 6p for now.
