From first reactions I've seen, can't say anyone happy with the price for what's being provided. A general WTF lulz would summarize their response.

Agreed, they should have come in at at least $100 cheaper. Sort of feeling gouged @ the pricing tiers.

Plus no TMobile wifi calling....

I think that's what happens when you let HTC build your phone. HTC phones were always pricey unlocked from what I remember. The 128gb should have been what the 128gb 6p was and the 32gb really has no place anymore.

How do you go from offering 32, 64, 128 last year to only 32 or 128 this year? They are banking in unlimited cloud to get buyers.

Yet they're already all sold out...oh well I'll have to keep checking to get one.

Edit: Whoops the store was just broken, only the blue was sold out

Timely updates, better camera(?), free cloud storage for photos, not TouchWiz.

worse display, no water proofing.

Cloud storage I would say is a push given the S7 has SD slot, up to user which they prefer.

It all depends what's valuable to you. If waterproofing is then note 7. If you prefer timely updates and ability to have a wider developer base, the pixel still is a nexus device.

For sure every phone has pluses and minuses. Timely updates are my main reason for not going back to Samsung or other non "Nexus" devices. I have been down that road before. For others, factors such as water proofing are more important and that is perfectly valid as well.

(or basically what sze said above!)

Is there really any compelling reason to take this over an unlocked S7?
Project Fi? I've been using it on my 6P and it's been great, have no desire to switch back to one of the big US carriers.

ordered a 128 GB Pixel, in black, says estimated delivery end of the month

for me this is basically the perfect phone, top end specs in a smaller footprint

What are the chances they will add a 64 GB model? Later on they added a gold 6p.

Just sucks because I've been a big fan of the nexus devices every year, especially since updates come directly from Google, my buddies develop kernels for them, etc.

Only this year I won't have the latest one. I can't see myself going back to 32gb..roms, kernels, mods, backups add up quickly. I doubt you would want to use the cloud for stuff like that.

In the case of photo and video backups, unlimited cloud storage is much better than a mSD in my opnion. mSD is limited in size, and I also do not want my backup to be in the same location/device that is taking all the pictures. With cloud backup, if something happens to my phone (or mSD card...), there's no problem my photos are backed up in the cloud. With mSD, If I lose my phone, I also lose the mSD.

Total fail, IMO. Should be $350, and will be on sale for that price once it flops.

Yeah, a 64GB option would have been nice. I haven't really had problems with storage on my Nexus 6 however. I usually store my nandroids on my server and just use adb to push files if I really screw something up.

Ordered a 128Gb silver+ and it says end of November, hoping it comes earlier so I can sell off my 6P, although the price on the 6P might not drop a ton since the pixels are so high.

I get they're looking to match Apple on price and stuff, but I would have really liked to see a 64GB base and then 128GB and 256GB options. Not a fan of the large gap in the base and upgrade amount, it's what Apple does too. At least it's not 16GB base which was plain stupid by Apple with the 6S (that is from a customer viewpoint, from a shareholder perspective it was a nice greedy move).

450$ for the 32gb and 550$ for the 128gb would've been great IMO. Even 500/600 would've been OK. 650$/750$ is too much.

Yup this is exactly what apple does. Not sure what prompted them to do this. I remember paying nearly $600 for my 64gb 6p last year and I was fine with that.

Most people that want the same specs but don't care about Google updates can get the one plus 3.

Not impressed.

With Pixel price this high, does it really mean Nexus line will be killed?

I am not happy with the google pixel price. I am not personally happy with it. But lets change the subject from my personal disapointment.

I am curious what is the profit HTC makes on the google pixel phones, vs their own inhouse own skinned android phone with the HTC 10.

If the profit is similar, and if they can sell the Google Pixel (made by HTC), I am curious if HTC will just drop their own line of phones since Google is the main one doing the software (less cost), and arguably this will sell a lot better than the HTC 10 did. The HTC 10 was released more or less in May (no firm release date), and it is expected to only sell 1 million phones worldwide for the specific HTC 10 model, aka only 1 million flagship phones. (All HTC phones is expected to be 13 million worldwide)

-----

The downside to this is Google can also partner with other partners for the next Google Pixel Phone and even if they keep a yearly HTC flagship they may release midline Google Pixel with crappier specs (but cheaper prices) and then HTC is competing with these midline phones. The thing is me standing back and looking at the situation, this does not seem like much of a downside for HTC is already competing heavily with a dozen major android phones at different price points, said phones often offer more features or a better feature per price point than HTC does (for example HTC is competing with Samsung on the high end front and is losing, and HTC is competing with half a dozen companies at the $200 and $400 price point).

Not necessarily. See last time this occurred 2 years ago with the Motorola Nexus codenamed Shamu, which because the Nexus 6. It was also released at the $600+ price point (depending on storage). Only for the next year to see two new nexuses the 5X and 6P released at a good amount cheaper price points.

I knew the second that HTC was involved that it was going to be overpriced and seriously meh. At least my 6P is still a speed demon so looking forward to them going back to Nexus next year after the Pixel becomes a massive sales failure.

And BTW last year by this time after the announcement all versions of the 6P were already sold out. Only the blue is sold out right now.

The Nexus 6P was $649 at release wasn't it? That is the same price the Nexus 6 launched at.
