Verge summed it up pretty accurately - "Google announced an iPhone, a Gear VR, an Echo, and an Eero", very disappointing... I even took some time off from work to watch it. Their devices and ideas were never anything groundbreaking, what set them apart was the price and lack of bloatware. It was really sad to watch the launch of the phone where the only thing they focused on was the color, case material and the camera... and then announce that everything's twice as expensive, they now cost significantly higher than their competition, I see their whole operation going down in a year or 2, just like google fiber. In six months, once nobody buys their crap, they will give them away from free. They should stick with just software, these type of things are harmful to their goodwill. The Assistant thingi and it's road map is pretty amazing, just focus on that.
