Google offering Picasa for Free

According to their website Picasa is:
"Picasa. Everything you need to enjoy your digital photos in a single software product:

Auto-transfer photos from your digital camera.
Organize and find pictures in seconds.
Edit, print, and share photos with ease.
Create slideshows, order prints and more!"

Apparently they were bought by Google and are now offing the product for free. I don't know anything about this program, but for free I'll try it out.

No Spyware and its a pretty nice program - integrates with the blogger software and Hello for easy image to web uploads.

how do these programs compare? any first hand experience?

i haven't used either, but my digital photo collection is growing quickly and i need to start organizing it.

I prefer doing research before installing random software onto my PC But that's just me.

I've used this program before and still do, it has a WONDERFUL UI and organizes very well. Highly recommended.

Does it allow you to resize a large batch of images at once? and rename them sequentially (i.e Nandy001, Nandy002, etc...)?

Be careful with this program. If you have your Recycle Bin set to not warn you every time you put something in it, you will not be warned before deleting something in Picasa. You see, in other programs, like Adobe Photoalbum, pressing delete only removes the item from the album, not the disk, but in Picasa, it is the hotkey to permanantly delete something - oh and did I mention it does not place the deleted file in the Recycle Bin? Lost a lot of my Family Guy divx's among other things because of that (why did it have to import the videos on my hard drive, its a image organizer!)

elanarchist, thanks for the warning. I'm definately not downloading this then. Every other image/video "gallery"/"album" sort of program, has either required a seperate explicit command to delete an item permanently off of the HD, or additionally prompted, after deleting from the local collection.

Another annoying thing about Picasa is that it leaves a hidden .inf file in each folder it finds pictures in. Took me a while to delete those after uninstalling. Lame.
