Mine glitched at one point and asked me about Subway 8-9 times, made around $5 from all of those. No political ones yet.

Who knew it would take so little to get people to install spyware? It isn't even covert :^D

It's also not spyware since it's not actually recording what you're doing and reporting it back to Google. Answering questions that may reveal private information isn't at all the same.

Dude.. That's pedantry at it's finest. It's throwing baubles at people to get them to build their own dossiers. It's pretty much spyware. The fact that it's a stupidly written program, and requires the user to do it's work for it, doesn't make any less spy'y.

You're being ridiculous. Google is soliciting information in exchange for compensation.

What method of market research do you find acceptable?

The NSA can spy on your activities from software embedded in hard drives.

Google here is surveying people voluntarily, using an app. One is spyware, the other is not. There's a big difference, and the fact that Google isn't doing this covertly is reason number one that it isn't "spyware". It may be pedantry, but don't use words that you aren't willing to apply properly by any standard definition.

There's nothing stopping you from giving FALSE information, by the way. Fight trolling with trolling :awe:. When it comes to privacy, anonymity is better than deception, but only if you know you are truly stealth. Google has other methods of data collection or mining, anyway, it's ridiculous to assert this is spyware unless you know something else we don't.

Then don't use it

They're gonna get your data eventually, and now you can get something for it

Seriously, google probably already knows everything there is to know about me. I might as well get paid for it.

^ I'm even surpised they ask me the same stupid question of how to I get to XYZ and did I go within the last month etc... They know this info, I always have my phone on me and Google Now tells me travel times on the days it "thinks" I should go to a place.

It's pretty obvious that people here have never been in a focus group.

My college paid me $75 for two hours of my time to provide feedback on the orientation I attended.

Being surveyed for some reward is not spying, as the word itself (SPYING) implies some form of inconspicuousness.

And again, it's completely voluntary. And again, are you not using Android with Google services? Getting bent all out of shape over this, of all possible things Google offers to know about your life, is stupid.
