Google Pacman in HTML 5

Did you know the new Google Pacman was created in HTML 5? This is amazing isn't it usually games like this are made in gaming code like C#! It makes you wonder how powerful HTML 5 as a coding language is !​

HTML5 is not a coding language. Javascript is the language and HTML is the layout. Googles pacman was made using HTML5 elements (well, really just one element) and javascript.

Now, as to how impressive this is. Pacman is an incredibly simple game. After all, it had to run on 70s era hardware. The fact that it can be done with HTML5 and javascript really isn't something that is impressive. (though, the fact that the googlers put it together is impressive. Working with JS like that is not fun).

Woops, 10 years off . Either way, my point being that it would point to the crappyness of javascript if something like this wasn't possible.

Google Pacman was more Javascript that HTML5. Javascript is old but it is still very powerful and widely used. Choose your tools based on the requirements, there is no "best" option for all.

Take facebook for example - heavily reliant on Javascript.

Naming a big website and saying "It is heavily reliant on Javascript", is just sort of silly. Every modern webpage is going to be "heavily reliant on Javascript" because that is the only option available to them. It is not like they WANT to be heavily reliant on it, it is that they HAVE to be heavily reliant on it.

There is a REALLY good reason why google is going to try and kill off Javascript with Dart.


Speaking of Dart, I think google is doing this exactly right. HTML5's biggest problem was that the standard was openly available throughout its development phase which has lead to mad dashes to implement stuff that may one day be removed from the standard. Google is keeping a tight lip on Dart presumably because they want to create the language right without having to worry about 500 different implementations that support random things that were taken out of the standard.

True, if you look at the HTML5 local storage - it's a complete mess, several implementations are half done, and have been abandoned because everyone can't agree. SQLite can't be used because to define HTML5 they'd have to define SQLite.
