Can we just end this already?

Christmas IS a secular holiday. It may not have been 1,000 years ago but today, in 2012, it is. I'm an atheist and I celebrate it because it's no longer religious - it's about Santa, rain deer, elves, cookies, big dinner, family, gifts and going in to debt. I don't know any Christians which celebrate it (let's be fucking honest here) religiously, they all put up trees, lights like everyone else. I tell people Merry Christmas. If they're offended and tell me so, I don't. Oh, and that has literally never happened to me and I work with a bunch of Indians (IT, not Casino).

That said, "Happy Holidays" is perfectly fine and who says Google must celebrate Christmas anyway? They're a private company and google.com is their private property. They can do WHATEVER they want to with it under the law. If they want to say Merry Christmas in Norway and Happy Holidays in the US that's their business.

My god, people are stupid.

Except you don't actually debate your points. You come in and pick one or two very simple posts and reply with a line or two of ignorant bullshit every 20 posts or so.

You just said you would correct someone and make them feel like an idiot for saying "Happy Holidays" yet you have never once said why you think someone who doesn't believe in Christmas or your Christ should pretend that they do. Why wouldn't that be MORE insulting than "happy holidays"? Even worse is you said "if" and not "when people say" which implies that you don't hear it very often at all which kind of goes against your entire "was on Christmas" thing.

Thing is he/OP just found out Santa does not bring him presents and needs something to OUTRAGE about.

That is insane, I am not a "full time troll" and I dont get paid. You disagree with me so would prefer to shut me down than debate. That is cowardly and typical of the left.

Ah, yet another 'left' bashing post. Again you are forgetting who you are logged in as, this is your arab/muslim bashing account. In case you hadn't noticed, no one wants you here, left or right. So get a life. You clearly an ALT/EBT troll so STFU and stop posting on these forums.

You say Happy Holidays to people, even on Xmas, because you still do not know if they celebrate and it is better to be inclusive of everyone than to say it to someone that doesn't celebrate. It is just polite.
To me it just doesn't fly on the actual holiday. If its Christmas its Christmas it isn't Presidents day or some other holiday. Plus it was my friend that was saying "happy holiday" or "merry seasons" or some other such nonsense. I don't really think it is polite to generalize Christmas as "holiday". Especially considering that most of the people you run into celebrate Christmas.

I'm not really bothered by it though.

The paranoia that somebody is out to ruin my Christmas would ruin my Christmas. We always create what we fear.

I explained this, For many religions Christmas is not actually part of the religion but they still celebrate it and wish Merry Christmas. Why do you think they shouldn't say Merry Christmas since its not part of the religion but they still celebrate it?

Well I doubt they "celebrate" it if they don't believe in it. They might do the stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with the religious aspect such as exchange gifts but that is not celebrating Christmas.

Even Richard Dawkins wishes people a Merry Christmas but he is an atheist, because its a joyous occasion and there is nothing wrong with wishing people a Merry Christmas.

Good for him. What does that have to do with everyone else?

I dont hear "happy holidays" often but I still hear it.

Wow, really big war you guys have on your hand.

And the war on Christmas is orchestrated in many ways, you know taking out the nativity scenes, STEALING THE BABY JESUS FROM A NATIVITY SCENE --http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/12/26/baby-jesus-stolen-from-ohio-nativity-scene/?test=latestnews

HOLY SHIT!!!! Some jackass stole the baby Jesus from a nativity scene, I had no idea the war had escalated to the point that the best example you can give is some thieving asshole. Heck, Richard Dawkins probably gave the order himself and the "Merry Christmas" stuff he says is just his cover.

Every time Richard Dawkins says "Merry Christmas," I'm assuming he's just giving me marching orders as an atheist to go commit random acts of petty vandalism in the name of not God.

It makes no sense to say merry christmas to someone that doesn't celebrate, period. You wouldn't say happy yom kipper to someone that isn't jewish either...

It doesn't make sense to go around saying "happy holiday" on the day of Christmas to avoid saying it to the 1% of the people you meet that doesn't celebrate it either. You'll end up offending more people by not saying merry Christmas.

If you know somebody doesn't celebrate Christmas then you shouldn't say Merry Christmas. My friends on facebook know I celebrate Christmas but I got happy holidays instead.

If someone is offended that a complete stranger doesn't wish them a Merry Christmas, then they are a shitty person and no one should care if they are offended.

Its funny how the religious right are the only people so incredibly stupid that they could not only invent a war on christmas, but actually lose the same war. Even though the other side never showed up, or knew they were fighting.

Then can we say the same thing if someone gets offended by getting wished a Merry Christmas?

Lets see what Google does when the new year rolls around and see if it is advertised as Happy Holidays. Regardless, they have the right to put whatever they want on their website.

This reminds of the movie "The Dictator" and when he renamed everything Aladeen. It would be kind of silly that all holidays be called "Happy Holiday" instead of the actual holiday name.

You know how you militant Christians can get back at the rest of us? You can say "Merry Christmas" for every holiday, not just Christmas!

But thats the point, they only pull this happy holidays crap on Christmas but for other religions they say the actual day, why the double standards?

What do they have against Christians?

Spoiled, that's all... And want to force feed this to you. What makes so bad is that the whole day is a lie and a cash cow for retailers and greedy family member/freinds. My guess would be that Jesus would be looking down in disgust at this lie being told in his name, and how it has almost nothing to do with him.

He should probably take that up with the early Christian architects who decided to shove their beliefs down everyone's throat.

If somebody is offended by hearing "Merry Christmas" in a country where 99% of the people celebrate it then they are idiotic twats. If you're trying not to offend as many people as you can then saying Merry Christmas will make that happen.

If you read the article there were a lot of complaints over this though.

I believe people should say Merry Christmas but if someone says happy holidays to me I will respond back and correct them and make them feel stupid.

So what you're saying is that the company should change what they are saying because a bunch of people got offended and complained?

IMO Merry Christmas is the new politically correct term for the holidays. You offend more people saying Happy Holidays (far more) than saying Merry Christmas these days.

And those that are pissed at Happy Holidays scream that the company is doing it so as not to offend.

You are the what you claim to hate.
