Google sync is unreliable, any alternatives for email push to iPhone?

Having my gmail pushed to my iPhone using Google Sync is incredibly unreliable. I'd say about 75% of the time its pushing email just fine but then out of no where it goes down and I no longer get email pushed to my phone. I cant even manually fetch the email without setting up a POP or IMAP profile on my phone for my gmail account. Looking through Googles support forums for the iPhone, it seems there are a lot of other people having the same issue and it has been going on for months. Google is not even acknowledging the issue which is unacceptable, even if it is still only in beta.

Are there any other alternatives to google sync for getting email pushed to the iPhone? If I cant find something else I may just have to go back to IMAP or POP. When Google Sync goes down I dont get emails for hours, sometimes days, even POP or IMAP can be set to retrieve emails faster than that.

Hmm, I use sync and I've never noticed a problem. Your only other real option is to go back to imap.

Zylander, it's actually an issue with how the iPhone is migrating the data across the networks. It's particularly a problem going from Edge to Wifi - currently the only solution is to restart your phone. I have no idea if it will be fixed by Apple, but it technically can happen with ANY push email setup.

Do you happen to have a link to an article or something describing this? I may just go back to IMAP, this happens to me pretty often.

I actually have similar issues with GMail when it's set up as an Exchange account, although my situation is a bit more complicated I'd say. I have set up mail forwarding from my 2 accounts (personal and work) to forward all messages to GMail using their +addressing feature and GMail has filters set up to automatically label messages "personal" or "work" so I can identify what messages they are, but I've noticed that doing so will NOT trigger push whatsoever on the iPhone, and as a matter of fact I was actually unable to find the messages ANYWHERE in my mailbox!

So as of now I have to go back to maintaing separate IMAP accounts and relying on push notifications instead for push mail.

Yes, there are a ton of apps that do it. I personally use and like PushMail
