I am confused as to how that is a reply meant for me.

Do you remember my position on healthcare? To be frank, I'm telling him "Single Payer" is something we push for to gain greater acceptance for it. My understanding is people are suffering, and they will continue to suffer until we win the day to provide proper care and cost reduction. That is to be achieved through government subsidy, and it is my moral duty stand for it so that others may hear the message. To lead the charge so that others may follow.

That post above is words of advocacy for something I'm sure many of us agree upon. I wish you the best, and I know you deserve better. I'm sorry we are not yet that nation, but I will carry on to see that it is some day.

Thank you for your support. I'm sorry I confused your message, wasn't sure where you were coming from, my bad

And the incompetence that is the GOP continues. Senate parliamentarian has found that major portions of the latest bill violate senate rules and would require 60 votes. This includes the language to defund planned parenthood, prohibiting tax credits to be used on insurance plans that cover abortion etc...

I just can't understand the pressure to push a turd like this through when the polls show that it's YUGELY unpopular. I guess they are hoping that they can slam it through quick and the fact that people have short memories. When you have a bill that has polled down into the teens and is the most unpopular possible major legislation in over three decades.....smh.

It's about the grip that a consortium of very wealthy far right donors have on the Repub party leadership. They'll cut off the money, honey, & primary your junkie ass along with it.

I've read that the Koch's and others have said so. However, the latest bill keeps the tax on the wealthy (but does remove some of the taxes on medical devices, etc. as well as removing the mandate). Seems that the investment tax would need to be removed to make their top base happy, no?

What taxes are you referring to? Cap gains?

no, income.

Capital gains get re-introduced to the historically reasonable rate of 70%. LoL-like anyone does any real work on pure gambling when investing in stocks. are you serious?

70% of those taxes go to cancer research, 20% goes to public education, the other 10% goes to women's health, family planning, etc. You want to make this country great again? I just gave you the best answer you will hope to see as long as you carry the GOP derp card in your pocket.

OK, so you want the cap gains tax raised to 70%. And the top income bracket now is a tick under 40%. How high do you want that raised? Do you want another bracket?

My how the Democrats have changed in a generation. Just 20 yrs ago Bill Clinton signed legislation cutting the cap gains tax from 28 to 22%.

Dunno about the "latest". It's all turning into a variant of the old shell game. The original Senate bill def included tax cuts at the top-

raise their taxes by something like a meager 5% to a still world-wide unconscionably low rate of ~37% and that goes a long way. The ultra wealthy--the 0.01%ers--get a nice generous 15% hike, it's not like they pay taxes, anyway, and it's not like they are going to miss the couple of million per year from their still-net hundreds of millions in take home...

Income taxes for the rich are now at nearly 40%. I'm puzzled by the math when you say a 5% raise will take them to 37%.

The top marginal rates for earned income are nearly that but the wealthy make their money via capital gains. The top marginal rate only applies to the portion of taxable income somewhere north of $400K. I'd be weeping tears of joy & thanking my lucky stars to ever pay the top marginal rate on any part of our income.

I guess the people don't want Obamacare and definitely don't want the turd that the GOP is trying to push out. Now a new poll suggests that they are moving even more left on healthcare.

http://www.denverpost.com/2017/07/20/health-care-political-left-poll/

A new poll suggests the country may be shifting left on this core issue, with 62 percent saying it’s the federal government’s responsibility to make sure that all Americans have health care coverage, while 37 percent say it is not.

I agree. I have no problem with a top marginal rate of 40%. I'd be hesitant to go much over that 'cause then we're getting to the point where the gov't is taking more than 50% of someone's income.

Right now the top 5% is paying over half ( 60% ) of all income taxes. I think that's a fair burden.

Well, yeh, but Repubs want to change that. Federal income taxes are only a part of total taxes, anyway, not to mention that the incomes of the very wealthy aren't earned income at all.

Tell you what- imagine making $1M/mo. Imagine paying 60% in taxes. Imagine tears in your eyes as big as horseturds while you nail down 100x the after tax income of the average American family.

I would not be too pleased about paying $600,000/mo to Uncle Sam. I'd look into all sorts of ways to shelter that kind of dough

Just a heads up that Jaskalas basically want to be like Ben Sasse: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2017/07/the-wasted-mind-of-nebraska-sen-ben-sasse.html

Says all the right things, still a conservative.

He signed it after having raised taxes the previous years while also cutting spending. It all changed when Republicans took Congress when he was forced to work with Republicans to avoid government shut downs. I'd also say that lowering the rate of capital gains exacerbated the .com bubble.

Some say it's what caused it.

http://www.businessinsider.com/heres-why-the-dot-com-bubble-began-and-why-it-popped-2010-12

Again, Republican economic policies are complete and utter garbage.

Why, when your after tax income lets you do most anything you ever wanted? Is greed a moral imperative?

I tend to agree with this perspective:

http://www.heritage.org/taxes/report/tax-cuts-not-the-clinton-tax-hike-produced-the-1990s-boom

Regardless of whether 20 or 28% is the best number, a tax rate of 70% is insane.
