Exactly. This is all procedural to get to an end goal. Maybe, just maybe, that will include some democrat input. Doubt it but I can hope.
No Dems will provide input, because the motion to proceed is based on repealing and "replacing" Obamacare within the framework of the original House bill. It can be carved into repeal only or it can be gussied up with all kinds of additional funding and more/fewer tax cuts on the replace side, but it's still based on the original House bill. There is no "fresh start" option or "fix Obamacare/Medicare only" option here, so Dems will rightfully stay the fvck away from it.

I bet the House Republicans are secretly hoping it dies in the Senate so they never have to vote on it again.
Can you imagine if they actually pass repeal of individual mandate while community rating remains in place. Private insurance markets will collapse within a year.

Apparently the goal is to get a motion to proceed passed then fail to pass a bunch of different health bills, followed by an extremely narrow bill that's only purpose is to get to a conference committee with the House, at which point they can try and work on some final bill.
What in the actual fvck? That sounds like a lot of unnecessary procedures to ensure that no Democrat ever touches this bill!

According to some Republicans I can sit outside with my beggars Bowl to fund my health care. Others are advising roots & herbs to cure my cancer. After all, " insurance isn't healthcare "

The idea that healthcare will come up for yet more votes has to be fucking terrifying to both houses. If they go to conference I'm betting actual legislation never emerges.

It seems like they are trying to use the same tactics that were successful in the House, primarily saying 'I know this bill is bad but just vote for it so we can fix it later'. I genuinely think their hope is to keep having people vote for bills they hate with the hope they are fixed later all the way through passage, at which point they will say 'we'll get rid of the bad parts later in some future bill'.

I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a more irresponsible way to legislate.

I haven't seen a proposal. What are we talking about here? Who gets their taxes raised and by how much? That's why I haven't offered any reason. My hunch is that healthcare is so expensive that it'll have to be paid for by most of us; not just the rich.

98% income taxes on Sea Ray's income.

There, that's my proposal. It's like, the 3rd or 4th proposal in response to your requests, yet you claim that no one has made any? How many more proposals do you need before you decide people have actually responded to you in good faith?

OK fine. The article says "rich people pay 69% of federal taxes in America. " So what's the problem? In what world are you saying that the poor pay more in taxes? Did you miss where it said the poor (bottom 20%) pay 0.8% of all federal taxes?

It's still the majority of their income, vs the wealthy, who actually pay well less than 20% of their income in the end.

This actually matters, you know. Do you still refuse to understand this?

My prediction is there is going to be a whole lot less Congressional baseball if they actually manage to throw tens of millions off health insurance.

Armored limos & walled compounds are obviously the answer.

I'm not really sure what either of us are arguing with this. I think we are mostly cross talking, defending our little hills against the other no matter what the position is.

The heart of my argument is that the middle class and poor can not handle much more in taxes. They are already spending all their money and getting taxed on all of it, and if that turns out to be a small percent of the national tax base it is because they make up a equally small portion of the national economy. The top percent of earners on the other hand can handle more taxes because they are using, and paying taxes on, a significantly smaller portion of their total wealth.

I don't really care who pays what in taxes. I never shed tears for the hardships of someone with their own private jet. I only care about who can pay what in taxes.

I'm saying that our tax structure is already very progressive and I've given facts to back it up. Our discussion shows the challenges of funding single payer. The hills as you put it will be defended

Put together a cohesive sentence so I can understand what you're saying. Are you saying that the poor spend a majority (over 50%) of their income in taxes?

No, I don't think anyone's income should be taxed at 98%. If that's your proposal then it goes down in flames

Our tax system is not very progressive as has already been shown to you. The only challenge to funding a single payer system is bought politicians.

Looks like the MTP is going to pass. Proceed on what however remains a near total mystery.

Dean Heller might as well change his name to Done Heller if he votes for the MTP.
His career is going to be over.

Has Capito flipped? I figured she was the one McConnell got this morning, especially after the call out from Trump at the Jamboree. Trump is still pretty popular in WV.
