I have that guy on ignore. If you want to make a point make it.

I'll quote it for you....

As I have linked before, federal income tax is quite progressive, but our tax policy OVERALL is not. To any rational person overall tax policy is what matters because, well, that's what you actually pay. When you look at ALL taxes our system is barely progressive. These numbers are a bit out of date because they don't account for ACA taxes but overall it's still pretty close.

https://www.theatlantic.com/busines...total-us-taxes-are-barely-progressive/262536/

So now that you've realized our system isn't actually very progressive at all but thought that they would be paying their 'fair share' in a very progressive system, presumably you are okay with raising their taxes now. Just kidding, I'm sure you'll find a new excuse.

The hand writing is on the wall, Big tax cuts for 400 families & millions of sick people lose coverage. Wait till employers stop offering insurance or bringing back lifetime limits & caps.

My sorrow is like an ocean right now, I can't stop crying

First of all it shows what I've alluded to earlier. It's the folks in the 60-80 area that's getting screwed. Aside from that the article admits that we do have a progressive system. The reason it's not more progressive has little to do with the feds. It has to do with sales taxes, property taxes, gas taxes etc. The social security taxes are set up to benefit each tax payer individually. The amount you get back is based on the amount you put in but as a percentage the lower paying folks get more back per dollar put in than the rich.

So if you don't like those numbers, your options are to change FICA or non fed taxes. Where do you want to start? If you'd like to start a thread on taxes that's fine with me.

It sucks how McCain threw you under the bus like that, while he gets government paid cancer treatment and applause.

I am so, so sorry. My sister and my niece have both battled cancer, and know what a drain it can be on a family and not just financially. There really aren't words to describe the callousness of these people trying to save the rich more money by making those who aren't suffer.

McCain has earned his gov't benefits more than all of us combined. I have no problem with any gov't help he receives

Bullshit. The only way to make taxes more progressive is with income taxes, particularly federal income taxes.

How did he earn it? Did he make some contribution to society which is now paying sufficient dividends to pay for his benefits?

White welfare gets you all sorts of privileges, didn't you know. We place a higher value on those in the military than we do our own citizens as a whole. It's ironic if you think about it.

Maybe Lockheed and other defense companies can pay for his health care, since they are the only ones who benefitted from Vietnam War.

That would be nice except tax payers would still be paying for it seeing as that's who pays for the military to begin with.

Oh I agree. That's why it's ludicrous to throw all the taxes in there if you're only going to consider income taxes. Why complain about the effects of a sales tax on the poor when you know damn well that ain't changin'.

I don't either. I just have a problem with him being a dick who serves the financial elite at the cost to everybody else. His wife will get a nice fat tax cut, however-

You're getting ahead of yourself. All he did was vote to debate healthcare. I think debate is a good thing. That's why I'm here

You really don't know? Read about his service to his country sometime. I'm really amazed you'd ask such a dumbass question. I obviously gave you far more credit than you deserve.
