.As I have linked before, federal income tax is quite progressive, but our tax policy OVERALL is not. To any rational person overall tax policy is what matters because, well, that's what you actually pay. When you look at ALL taxes our system is barely progressive. These numbers are a bit out of date because they don't account for ACA taxes but overall it's still pretty close.

First of all it shows what I've alluded to earlier. It's the folks in the 60-80 area that's getting screwed. Aside from that the article admits that we do have a progressive system. The reason it's not more progressive has little to do with the feds. It has to do with sales taxes, property taxes, gas taxes etc. The social security taxes are set up to benefit each tax payer individually. The amount you get back is based on the amount you put in but as a percentage the lower paying folks get more back per dollar put in than the rich.
So if you don't like those numbers, your options are to change FICA or non fed taxes. Where do you want to start? If you'd like to start a thread on taxes that's fine with me.
