Oh, so Republicans don't deserve healthcare 'cause...they're Republicans. No wonder constructive conversation is so challenging around here. How do we carry on a productive discussion with such partisans?

Personally I think everyone deserves affordable health care. Currently Republicans think everyone deserves "access" to healthcare which in plain terms is the ability to buy some level of insurance if you can afford it. If you don't buy it or can't that's on you.

So you currently live somewhere and do something where you are likely losing your insurance. Insurance companies don't want to provide insurance in your area apparently. Can you explain why you expect the insurance industry or government to subsidize your choices of job and living location but not others?

If you don't want to subsidize me, fine. I'll take care of myself. Here's my question to you: If you won't subsidize me, why do you subsize my neighbor? If he gets a goody, I want it too.

McCain's vote counts just as much as the other 50 assholes who voted to advance legislation that is intended to deprive 20M Americans of coverage.

Mere fact. Deal with it.

True story. While he may have railed about route it seems that he's cool with the destination.

I like how he complained about the lack of regular order, then provided the decisive vote to avoid regular order, then went back to complaining about the lack of regular order.

He literally had the power to force exactly the thing he claimed to want and then did the opposite. How mavericky of him!

Here's hoping you have a chance to do just that. Take care of yourself or a family member who is living with an ongoing, overwhelming medical issue that not only depletes the funds of the family but stresses the emotions to a snapping point at nearly every turn.

Arguably under these circumstances is when a person's character is most fully revealed. If that character is being a hypocrite of titanic proportions then so be it.

I already said I think you deserve healthcare and I'm happy paying into a communal pool to make that happen, whether that be traditional insurance, taxes or both.

Your preferred party does not believe that. They believe in removing government regulations and letting only the market decide on what to cover and what to charge.

So my question is if the goodies you want are available elsewhere or for other jobs why should the market subsidize your choices if it currently doesn't? (If you believe as the republicans do that this is the best way to bring healthcare to the American public)

Well, if you want to qualify for subsidy you could always take a job where you make less money. That's the trade off.

It's interesting how affluent conservatives end up being jealous of people less well off because of "free" or "subsidized". Cots at homeless shelters are free, too, and you can get one any time they're not full.

Apparently the order to proceed didn't quite go as smoothly as McConnell wanted.

While it's cold comfort now this is an interesting story. Reminds me of House of Cards.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slat...son_almost_torpedo_the_motion_to_proceed.html

McConnell and Johnson have a poor relationship. Johnson is reportedly still fuming at McConnell for abandoning his reelection contest last fall as a lost cause. Johnson, who was not expected to raise as much of a fuss during the repeal debate as he has, threatened several revisions of the bill over the last few months, and is freewheeling in his criticism of McConnell. He appears to have decided to spend his second term trolling McConnell.

After the vote got to 48 Repubs they were waiting for McCain and Johnson.

Rumors abounded about Johnson’s whereabouts. One reporter came into the gallery and said that he had just talked to Johnson at the subway—the one leavingthe Capitol. Was Johnson fleeing the scene?

Johnson appeared at last and made a beeline to McConnell, who smiled upon seeing him. Within about ten seconds, McConnell was no longer smiling. I cannot be certain, but the only words I believe I made out from McConnell’s mouth were “you’re kidding me,” near the beginning of their chat. For ten or so minutes, McConnell and Johnson spoke to each other with Cornyn drifting in and out. It seemed that McConnell was trying to explain something to Johnson, who wasn’t quite getting it, and vice versa.

After McCain came in and voted to applause Johnson was left as last republican standing and he voted for it.

Anyway thought is was an interesting dynamic.

Republicans deserve the healthcare they vote for.

Mere fact. Deal with it.

Fact is it was not to advance anything...it was to debate it

By default actively participating in a process that you subsequently denounce paints you as somewhat less than honest in your intentions.

I think, as Republicans do, that gov't ought to do all they can to reduce the cost of healthcare. Then, they have an obligation to help those in need and they have. They're not proposing an end to Medicaid.

Let's see what comes out of this, if anything.

Not at all. I imagine he wants to improve the bill and this is how it's done.

You either can't read or you just aren't getting it. Subsidies do no good if there are no insurance companies on the exchange. I'm really tired of repeating that
