8-30-2004 Security tries patience at Republican convention

NEW YORK (AFP) - From the phalanx of bomb-sniffing dogs, metal detectors and bag checkers to the
color-coded access passes that change daily, security at the Republican convention has been
anything but conventional.

Woe to the unsuspecting delegate who tries to smuggle in a banana!

Police were busy confiscating cans, glass bottles, umbrellas, perfume, nail polish and even fruit. "Apples, oranges, bananas. They can be used as projectiles," explained one officer.

Some reporters found themselves holding red passes that could get them down to the floor of the convention to rub elbows with Republican officialdom but barred them from entering their own work spaces.

Walk in with some bottles of water and you'll have to take a sip from each one to get through. "To see if they're poisonous?" quipped one journalist. No one responded or even cracked a smile.

Another reporter was told to open his water bottle and take a gulp, only to reach a second control point where he was ordered to throw the bottle out because it had been opened.

Most of the Republican delegates seemed to accept the precautions with good cheer. Richard Hayes, 51, a real-estate lawyer from Texas, said: "It gives a great sense of security, a comfort level since there's so much."

Comfort or no, the police here were not making any apologies for the inconvenience. As one officer said, "That's the way it is, those are the rules."

Neocons own New York and Free Speech - No Movie For You!!

8-30-2004 Rosario Dawson & Director ...ming Movie with permit

Dawson, 25, of Los Angeles, was filming a movie called "This Revolution," according to published reports. She was taken into custody at midday Sunday about a block from the site of the Republican National Convention in Madison Square Garden, authorities said.

The movie's director, Stephen Marshall, 36, of Toronto, also was arrested, the Manhattan district attorney's office said.

A police officer told Dawson and the other person that they had to leave the roadway, the complaint said, but they reportedly refused. Marshall reportedly tried to show police his city film permit but was arrested anyway.

Each was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct and one charge of obstructing governmental administration.

And, how's this for irony?

The RNC just showed a video of Bush spouting his rhetoric that he wants America and the world to be safer. We all know he claims the world and America are safer since he invaded Iraq and put Saddam behind bars.

Well, a reporter covering the RNC would think otherwise. He got to one checkpoint and they made him take a drink from his water bottle to prove it wasn't some sort of WMD I suppose.

He made it through that one.

At the 2nd checkpoint, though, they made him throw the bottle away because it was already open!!

Yeah...if we're so safe why are they so damn worried about a freakin' water bottle??

McCain just lost all credibility in my mind with those bs lines:

President Bush deserves our admiration.

America is safer now than it was on 9/11.

RNC 2004 - Remember 9/11 and Vote for Bush because he made us safer...well...not safe yet but we'll get there...just have to find a few more weakling countries to pre-emptively invade to piss off even more fundamentalists.

Are they ever going to stop using 9/11 as a political crutch? McCain...you are now one sad, sorry partisan hack. May your legacy R.I.P.

False advertising is right. My wife is calling it the Bait-and-Switch convention.

Yep, that's a shame. They should have McCain up on Thursday instead ... giving his acceptance speech.

Um...McCain's speech was good, but definitely not out of the park. He faltered a bit here and there, but he's not the best public speaker anyways so I won't blame him. I really liked his speech though, with exception to his comments on Sadaam and Iraq which I don't agree with, and I loved his crack at Michael Moore. That was absolutely classic, although it may come back to hurt him.

Is there anyone around here who is capable of screaming anything but "NEOCON" - the new "fascist" for liberals who couldn't use the proper definition of words if your lives depended on it.

Democrat = Socialist = Communist = Fascist

Just admit it: You want to enslave people to serve your Utopian fantasies. You'll feel better when you stop lying about yourselves and others.

Further proof that the political Left has:
  • ZERO tolerance
  • ZERO diversity
  • ZERO use for anyone who disagrees with their goals
Take a good look people: As long as you do exactly what these fascist-liberal thugs want, they'll attack you, insult you and otherwise throw you overboard because you've betrayed their wishes. You're only useful as long as you tow the line.

Is there any doubt that if Kerry was elected, he'd sign our sovereignty over to the UN and the brownshirts here would gladly round people into trains to be taken away to camps for extermination, or maybe just a little "re-education".

VOTE KERRY FOR AN AMERICAN GULAG!!!!

Up next: Rudy Guilianni - another sellout neocon, right?

Pathetic.

Are they gonna talk about any domestic issues, or is this convention solely gonna be about national security? For all the smack Republicans talked about Kerry not being specific on the issues, at least he addressed them for christ sakes. This is really pathetic if 9/11 is all Bush has to run on.

It's the first night of many - each night will have a theme and different discussions. Tonight is about national security. It's pathetic you could make such irrational decision at the start of the convention.

Sorry. If you think Democrats are fascists, you haven't a clue what the word means. Bush and his flock show far more traits of fascism. I used to refer to them as "neo-fascists", but ultimately decided it was too inflamatory. Most Bushies here immediately think of the violent aspects of previous fascist regimes instead of focusing on the other aspects of the fascism ideology.

I do agree, however, that "neo-conservative" is a misnomer. There is nothing conservative about them, nor is there really anything new. I used to rail about this regularly, but to no avail. I finally decided to go with the flow and refer to the Bushie-types as "neo-cons", where "con" is short for either "con-men" or "convicts" depending on my mood.

Yeah, right. 9/11 is only for fat, lying fake filmmakers to exploit.

Liberal-fascists want to throw 9/11 down the Memory Hole so people we swallow the lies of Kerry and the liberal-fascist Democrats who will bring this country to it's knees to please their masters in Paris. Truth's a b!tch, ain't it? No wonder you guys are so hysterical.

Rudy just dealt another great line - "We don't have all the right ideas and [the Dems] don't have all the wrong ideas." - KILLER!

He's now describing people jumping from the WTC - something the liars of the Left won't allow mentioned, lest we remember that America ain't the bad guys.

Funny thing. I didn't hear him mention they were jumping from the Towers because King George took a vacation instead of doing ONE DAMN THING about the threat of terrorsim before 9/11. Oh wait, that's not completely true. I think he told Richard Clarke to write a memo or something.
