It's to teach families flexibility......you know the flexibility of not getting paid for hours worked, the flexibility of having your boss decide when you spend the time you didn't get paid for etc.....

It neatly avoids SS contributions, cutting into benefits because of reduced lifetime earnings, also cuts pension/401K contributions. Probably some hidden benefits for the ownership class as well.

I know what blue collar folks have to say about it because I worked as one for decades- "Screw that! Give me the money!"

Yep, and I'm absolutely positive that the working class Repubs who will lose their overtime pay are more than willing to accept this as well as any other takeaways that their Repub legislators come up with. Next up, every other benefit that unions have fought and actually died for and of whom these faithful shmucks have benefited from for decades but are now going to go the way of the shrinking middle class they find themselves in.

Keep it up, faithful working class Repubs. I know it's still much more important to build that wall and to keep those imaginary terrorists out of your closets than to lose all of those "rights" that you think you are entitled to because you've had them for so long courtesy of the very unions that you were conditioned to hate.

And isn't a hoot that the folks who convinced you to hate the unions are the very ones who are now taking these "rights" of yours away, one after the other after the other?

One more reason I only do the wage-slave thing part time. Want me to work certain hours not of my choosing? Or more than 15 hours a week against my will? Find somebody else.

People should boycott the economy. If the dow goes to 10,000 trump will look like the turd he is to even the most jaded trump supporter. Money talks, bullshit walks.

This is how to approach elections - tell voters to look at every piece of legislation the GOP has passed when in the majority. They all favor corporations over individuals, employers over employees, rich over poor. Every. Single. Time. Their populist messaging is a big lie. The dems need to bang this drum over and over again. Starting with that disgraceful internet privacy bill. The GOP is in power and they need to own it all.

Most voters don't even know they're doing this kind of thing. Conservatives don't read the mainstream press. At most they know about only the largest legislative initiatives like healthcare. Even those voters who read mainstream press barely notice things like this. Time to educate voters.

No, people need to stop working and buying things and solving problems. Let the country go to total shit as fast as possible, before trump can start a war to distract us from his Russian problems.

OK, OK but before I stem on board would you mind taking a shit bath for a half a century or so just to assure me your ready for the reality? At the moment I'm thinking to myself that you're just completely unhinged.

I really doubt that if you showed them, that they'd be happy.
The problem is in passing that knowledge along, and getting it to reach them.

Is there something I am not seeing about this? Why in the world does anybody think this is a good thing?

Well just imagine when the unions get a one our work week. There will be lots more work to do and less unemployment. This would be a start down that road. Also with more time off, the hotel business should thrive and the golf courses will be jammed.

Totally agree with you in the sense that many working class Repubs have isolated themselves insofar as where they get their information from. They have been conditioned to acquire their information from sources that exclusively reinforces what they were told to believe by the very Repub legislators who want their constituents to remain ignorant of what their true intentions are.

A tight insulated looping circle of disninformation results and it obviously works quite well for the GOP and especially for the big moneyed interests that own their asses.

Makes me glad that for MOST of my working life, I either worked under a union contract, and/or in a state with its own labor laws that required OT either after 8, or after 40.

They'll pay you out in comp time, which you won't be able to collect on since they'll never grant you your time off.

If they can pull off a creative chapter 11 bankruptcy, you'll probably never get paid like United employees & their stock plan. A former coworker held $35K in stock for which he received less than $300 years later. He never cashed the check, keeps it in a frame on the wall to remind him... to never vote Republican again.

As long as the claim to be against abortion, who cares.

I used to work with a ton of Union workers and they all thought it was democrats destroying unions. They even listened to all the right wing talking heads, that bash unions non-stop. I have no idea how people can be so stupid.

Similar with me. I used to manage a bunch of organized guys (CWA). I won't say most because the majority didn't care but I will say the vocal ones really wanted to vote Republican but never found them good enough on trade. Makes sense to me why Trump won.
