Gosh Darn Comcast DVR Eplorer 8300HDC PVR

Up til now I loved my Explorer DVR.
But now my new TV can use HDMI inputs, and it really gives a much better picture over component cables.

However, if you pause something you recorded, and go away for like 3 minutes, or turn off the box for like 3 minutes the show you were playing back returns to the beginning.

The Comcast "tech" said just fast forward to where you were.
*asshole!

That's not quite as bad as the issue we have where if you fast forward for too long, it will hiccup and skip to the end of the recording. I need to replace the box but I'm kinda scared the next one I get will suck more.

just use component then. Honestly, the difference isn't as great as you'd think if your source is cabletv

My parents have the same recorder but with Time Warner. Time warner recently "upgraded" their software so it no longer saves settings that you choose. When you set it to dolby digital for the audio out, then turn the TV off and back on, and the box reverts back to HDMI only for audio. You have to reset your audio every single time you turn a tv or the box on and off.

When I was with Comcast, I always got better picture quality over component. I think HDMI really accentuates their compression artifacts.

Even their regular RF output Motorola digital tuner experiences similar glitches with Comcast's On Demand service.
