Gosh, my coworker is a jerk

So instead of opening a ticket with IT/helpdesk, the guy procrastinate his work and tells his boss that he can't get work done because he does not have wifi connection or wifi password.

So he's done this a few times before, instead of getting work done, he'll blame someone or something else and get out of doing work. ie the guy forgets his login password which is his vpn password. On days he decides to work from home, he "can't" log in and doesn't work or he loses his blackberry and can't reply to important emails, etc.

At least his boss is nice, she came to me and ask if we fixed the problem yet, I told her we never got the call and I be more than happy to give him a brand new laptop out of the box so he would never have these "wifi" problems or whatever problem again.

I suggest sitting down with his manager and making sure they know that you suspect he is blaming IT issues for lack of productivity.

Yeah the guy is so lazy, every day he comes over to ask if I want to take off work to go dim sum, well not every day but too often.

My boss already has a list of stuff he's always asking for.. ie passwords to log into his own computer.. we can't figure out if he's retarded or can't read. This is up to my boss and his boss, i just fwd the request as they come in

Eh if you can't remember your work password, write it down somewhere (encrypted/tattoo on arm/etc.). Can't believe he got away multiple times with that excuse, kinda would draw up incompetent flags to anybody.

Pretty much every IT support job I have had has at least one employee who blames their lack of productivity on IT issues. Sometimes it's hard to weed out people who are computer illiterate vs. slacking but there's always a few key differences.

Not calling would be a major red flag though, the boss probably needs to catch that one...

15 or so years ago, I worked at a place that hired this older Russian guy who was a complete idiot. Anyway, he was eventually fired and sued the company for wrongful termination, actually stating that IT didn't give him a computer, email, etc. and it was IT's fault he got fired. The guy's lawyer probably shit himself when we produced the guy's system AND his email account with correspondence to/from him.

sometimes its more of "covering your back". this person sounds like the type that will try and put blame on everyone else. Having good history or lack of, their requests for help and the help you've given...........takes away their defense "I told them I needed it fixed but no one got back to me." Keeping copies of emails and memos are just good for your career.
