No. It's gossip.

It sounds like a good idea in theory, but the "control" Dell would try to impose on Alienware would crush the reason those guys drive to work in the morning.

I think it's a load of bull. First off, Alienware doesn't even build their own laptops... they're all rebadged Clevos.

And if Dell was truly interested in AMD, AMD would bend over backwards to deal with them... they wouldn't need Alienware 'knowledge' or 'connections' in order to do it.

And as for Dell's lack of gamer's attention... it's simple, it's their lack of support for AMD. System building isn't the most complicated thing, and Dell could certainly build a system comparable or surpassing Alienware... and for cheaper as well, because of their massive buying power.

The hardcore gamer market is a very very small market. I don't know what Alienware's share of the market is, but i would bet much much smaller than 1%.

I agree with all of your points but feel this is really OT. If Dell were interested in Alienware, it wouldn't be because of laptops.

Well, the point was that the company doesn't do anything innovative... they don't build their own laptops, they don't design and build their own cases... they just assemble computers together... that's not difficult.

I think laptops are getting to be very popular now. I would bet laptops are a huge part of Dell's business, and only growing. They're finally reaching the power of desktops, even in the gaming arena. And getting so dirt cheap now.

Ture. Nobody really "builds" everything. Dell doesn't make their own cases and stuff either.

Like I said, I agree with your points. There really isn't anything that Dell can gain from aquiring Alienware except for an installed customer base and a marketing team that's more in tune with knowing how to sell a "gaming system" but Dell could build that up themselves in three months with less of an investment.

AW was never good anyway. Poo on them.

They said they needed money though; common sense dictates that Dell is the best place to go for that, especially since AW and Dell "share a lot in common." Besides, look on the bright side- now Dell actually has AMD hardware solutions.

It's interesting that Dell would purchase them and leave them as an autonomous unit. There may still be hope for AW after all. I can't see how this would be good for customer's if Dell tries to integrate them into their existing operations, so I'm glad to see that they'll remain a separate unit.
