im not kidding, if you build a friend a comptuer, you better get a restraining order against them.

AMD rules, VIA SUCKS... get your damn facts strait people JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSS.

I think nVidia will make AMD number one... since they don't seem to care about making their own fast chipsets.

nForce2... hehe... here's what im thinking (what im hoping):

1. 400mhz fsb (come on AMD, you can do it!)
2. 400mhz DDR memory bus with TwinBank2
3. DASP2... probably what makes the nForce fast to begin with
4. Hypertransport2 .. hmmm 2+GB/s link to southbrige anyone?
5. A version with a nv17 built in... for the cheapo's out there
6. APU 2.0... fix this thing up.. its got the power, it just need better drivers and a better DAC (is this off the MCP?)
7. Gigabit E-Net controller.. pluss all the other goodies
8. Serial ATA 1.. im thinking 4 controllers with raid support
9. USB 2.0... for sure, maybe throw a little firewire in there?
10. PCI-X... pleaassssssssssse!

ok i got carried away, and this is deffinatly the wrong thread

My GF's Black system I built.

I use a KDS Rad5 for the monitor, the Logitech Cordless Freedom Optical keyboard and mouse, and the Altec ATP3's. Black and silver looks real nice together. My system is also black and silver. Unless you are making some profit, I would not build a PC for friend or family.

I would also vote for Dell.

I have built everyone in my family computers (and I didn't charge them a dime), everytime something happens I get called up. It is well on two years now and I have to install newer drivers and everything. I thought that since they were getting a computer they would learn all the stuff about the hardware and software that should be needed. (to me it is fun) I was wrong they don't know how to install programs or anything, they just surf the web, chat and use word. Go with Dell or some other manufacturer that has a warrenty, and customer support.

Well I went ahead and built the machine.
Its up and running now and cracking SETI for team AT. I had to run all around los angeles to get "black" components and yet I failed in finding a black floppy. Oh well I will get one on monday.

So the system config is this:
Black Enermax Case (cousin to that Antec case you all like).
Liteon 16X Dvd (black)
Sony 16x Burner (black)
60Gb ATA-133 Maxtor HDD
MSI K7T266Pro2 Motherboard
Athlon XP 2000+
256MB Kingston Value Ram PC2100 DDR
ATI Radeon 7000 64MB DDR (OEM)
Dlink Network Card 530TX
SB Audigy OEM with IEEE 1394
Creative Labs Modem Blaster V92 Modem
Black CompUSA Keyboard and Black Microsoft Trackball
NEC FE950+BK (black 19" monitor - Multisync)
Creative Inspire 2.1 Speakers.

As of now I am missing a "black" floppy and a second fan for the harddrive. I bought a "white" floppy hoping to paint it black, but then found a guy in Gardena who has it for sale for 21bucks. Mwave ran out of everything black this morning (saturday), so I had to drive all around LA to find the black stuff.

Anyway its running now.. and running so far stable in XP.. we will see if anything comes up tommorow.. its cranking overnight now.

<< In my own personal experience, AMD is just as stable, just as fast, and costs half as much as Intel.
So yes, AMD is better than Intel.

Have you ever even built a new intel based system? Probably not. For most setups AMD costed half as much a while back but times have changed with the northwood.[\/Q]

<< get northwood 1.6A and oc it to 2.3ghz

you won't be disappointed. \
>>

So you two would happily sell an average non-skilled computer user an overclocked system? and charge $1800 to do it? Then turn around and claim Intel stability while overclocking???

I'm glad you don't build and sell systems anywhere near where I live... I get to fix enough crappily put together systems as it is.

Antec 1040 B case

the only way to go IMO

would be

Abit TH7-II RAID
512 PC800
Northwood 1.7 or 1.8 Ghz + AVC sunflower and overclock the beast
GF 4 Ti4600/ GF3 Ti200/ ATI Radeon 8500/ ATI Radeon 8500DV
sound blaster audigy

dell has some nice black flat panel monitors get a 17.4 " for about $550

and you can get the logitec z560's or boston acoustics DT6000 which are both black
newegg sells black CDRW drives as well as dvd/floppy drives

Maxtor 740 DX

I own 2 athlon systems and 1 intel and right now northwood IMHO would be the only choice but NO DDR RAM
RAMBUS = the way to go

the overclocking potential of the northwood is sooo good

I agree with Daovonnaex. MicronPC has great tech support and always has the fastest systems among the top OEMs on the market (and has systems in black too). If you aren't going to build and want to go the AMD route, here's a taste of what you can get from MicronPC:

- Black Minitower w/Front USB
- AMD Athlon XP 2000+
- 256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM-2 DIMMs
- 60GB ATA-100 hard drive (7200RPM)
- 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy Drive
- 24x10x40x CDRW w/1 CD rewritable
- 64MB DDR nVidia Geforce3 TI200 w/TV-out and DVI
- 19in MicronPC 910EX (18IN Viewable .26MM DP)
- 104 Enhanced Keyboard
- Logitech Wheel Mouse
- MicronPC standard mouse pad
- Microsoft Office XP Small Business w/Micron U Small Office Edition
- Norton Antivirus 2002
- Turbo Tax Home and Business Edition
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional Operating System
- Integrated Dolby Digital 5.1 Sound
- Altec Lansing AVS200 2-piece Speaker System
- 56K V.90 PCI Modem
- Integrated 10/100 Ethernet Controller
- nVidia nForce 420 Chipset
- DT Next Business Day On-Site 1st Yr
- Desktop One-Year Limited Parts Warranty and Technical Support Policy

Total: $1710.10 (not including tax and s&h)

You can always downgrade the burner speed and processor to an 1800+ if you wanted to.

This is an awesome OEM system.
