asrock dual sata 2 = 50,-
A64 3000+ = 100-110,-
Arctic Alpin heatsink+fan = 10,-
2x512mb Ram = 70-80,-
hdd 200gb = 80-90,-
Centurion 5 Case = 50-60,-
cheap graphics card = 50,-
PSU Enermax Liberty, FSP Fortron, Tagan, BeQuiet = 50-65,-
DVD Burner from LG, NEC = 45,-

these are european prices but me thinks they should be close to US prices though.

Just get a dell, the cheapest dell you can find. I saw some deals that were cheap and came with nice lcd monitors form dell. This way you get service and you don't have to worry

I'm with the Dell crowd. They offer the best cheap machines out there. Go in when there is a deal, I got a $1000 Dell for under $600 for my folks, and that was with a 17" flat panel. Can't go wrong with that.

I'd take this over a dell.

edit: all it would need is a graphics card and it would be a good gaming rig than future upgrade he could oc that processor and get two gigs along with a 6800GS or something.

Wow, nice system.

Way better than Dell + higher build quality- but you don't get an OS/ Monitor so it might not be worth the trade off.

Well, it would depend on what kind of deal you can get on a Dell. And the refurbs are the best bet, hotter than any deal Dell would give on a new system. I use an upgraded Dell refurb as my gaming system, I could have never built the same system for what I paid.

for the first post...
why in the hell would he need an aftermarket cooler..
especially on a venice.. the stock cooler would let most hit 2.7 .....and hes not overclocking...

I would go down the Dell route. Not only do you get a computer, but OS, monitor, only one company to deal with for warranty (if required) and most if not all peripherals you might require.

depends on the price difference between the boxed and tray version. sometimes u can save a few bucks goin with the tray version and a nice aftermarket cooler. plus i guessed the alpin should be a bit more silent, i never had a AMD cooler in my hands though.
