It's still illegal to download the Episode. If you own a book and go out and steal another copy of it, is it legal because you own an original copy? No! If you subscribe to HBO, you pay a monthly fee to watch it and record it from your TV. You do NOT pay for the privilege of downloading HBO episodes using BitTorrent.

if all the pirates would just move to russia/china where all the spammers are, this wouldn't be a problem

good luck on that

bleh. MP3s and Movies? sure.

TV Shows? hell no. One can catch this channel with a freakin' antenna. When will this insanity end?

You could also argue that I can "catch" the songs (mp3) off the radio and "catch" the movies with a camera at drive in theatre with no surrounding walls.

Using that logic...

What if I have an aerial and I missed an Episode of CSI? So I fired up Bittorrent to d/load it? Would that be wrong because I don't pay jack for what I view on my TV?

You don't pay "jack" for what you hear on the radio, but that doesn't mean it's right or legal to download it later.

But it's legal to record it as it plays? If so, you can't copy it afterward?

TV shows are copyrighted and protected from unauthorized distribution just like all the other media. For HBO in particular, you would think they'd be the leaders in trying to bust people trading their shows since their primary revenue stream is subscriber fees.

Paramount is uber-aggresive when it comes to protecting Star Trek. In the earlier days of the web, they tried to shut down any and all fan sites that used Star Trek content.

The only problem with it is that the MPAA isn't making money on it if you download it. Even if it comes from arial antenna - the broadcasters are paying for the show with commercial proceeds. Through bittorrent, noone is paying for it.

Of course I still say - Screw the MPAA/RIAA anyway. Entertainment should be free.

How is file trading different from recording from the radio?

Taping a song from the radio for your personal use is nothing like file trading. Unlike radio, file trading allows you to search for specific songs and access them at will. Also, the quality of downloads is much better. You are able to get a copy of the whole song, without a DJ talking over it or another song being mixed in. Downloads are digital and as such don?t lose sound quality in the transfer, as you do with analog tape. Most important, the harm that can be caused by file trading over the Internet is orders of magnitude greater than the impact of off-air taping.

Thank god Time Warner Cable doesn't give out IPs. They just won a court case against the RIAA and now they don't have to tell them sh!t.

Because the world doesn't need another Metallica ... we'll get by with Britney Spears and Sean Paul.

So actors should work pro bono to provide your 'free' entertainment?

Screw the BSA - computer software should be free, and developers should provide their services gratis.

This is what happens when you use Supernova.

They arent tracking anyone per-say. They simply seed the bittorents and watch who connects.

Then they nail you.
