Driver or OS cd? You can always download any drivers you need from their site here.

They ship the OS cd with the refurbs, but it's an extra cost for new systems.

Thank you for posting your new computer specs---I'm highly intrigued. But you need to upgrade your spelling.

At any rate, what the numbers in the square brackets represent? I have been mulling over them for the past 3 hours and I cannot figure it out. At least I solved Goldbach's conjecture in the process.

Sayeth the experienced low-profile system junkie:

"You got PwN3d, son. Hope you weren't planning on gaming on that thing."

May patience be with you as you wait years for a faster GPU to be fabbed onto a low-profile PCIe card.

I don't think you needed to tell us that your dad wasn't computer savvy. We sorta figured that out as soon as you said the word XPS.

THAT SYSTEM IS A PURE WASTE OF MONEY AND IT IS CRAP!!!! WTF WERE YOU THINKING?!?!?!?!

EDIT: plz excuse me, i posted without reading the whole thread.

Well, I believe that the cheapest X2 can beat the most expensive Pentium D most of the time in benchmarks...

It's the second X-Men movie... duh!

Actually it's the name of AMD's consumer dual core processors. The most popular of which is the AMD X2 3800+ with dual 2.0ghz cores. Typically alot faster than the Intel dual cores and getting to be cheaper.

Here's how to enjoy it:

1. Reformat and reinstall XP because all the included crap really slows your computer down.
2. Upgrade to at least 1GB of RAM.
3. Upgrade to an X800GTO/6800GS if you want to game on it.

That should offer the performance of a somewhat decent midrange PC.

Damn, your parents sure spent a lot of money on you for Christmas...

Yah.. I agree with #1 and #2, and #3...
and yah. they spend a crapload on you.

It's not bad, stop focusing on price, ENJOY being spoiled it doesn't last.

That's pretty good, I paid almost $2400 for my XPS 166!

Oh wait, that was in 1996 and meant that it had a 166MHz CPU, 512K cache card, 32MB RAM, 2GB HDD, floppy, 8x CD-ROM, 2MB video, Vibra16 audio with AWE daughter card, 33.6 modem, 15" Trinitron, and Windows 95

I couldn't resist adjusting for inflation: $2900 in year 2005 dollars... double ouch.

It's ok. I too am getting a new pc for xmas. I would probably upgrade the ram. You are stuck on the video card since it cant accept a regular gfx card. It has to be low profile. It looks ok but I would get xp pro since I am on a domain. Maybe reformat and reinstall to clean the bloat out.

To enjoy it he's going to need more memory, a bigger hard drive, and a real video card.

Maybe he could return it and get a $1500 newegg gift card? That would be a real christmas present!

I hate to break it to you, but you're not going to be able to upgrade the video card in that thing. It takes a half height card, so the x600se is probably the best you can find in that size.
