It's statements like this that lead me to believe that while most of mankind has been evolving there are people like yourself that are being left behind. The primitive part of your brain that is saying "BIG BETTER ME LIKE BIG" is dominant and rarely questioned. An educated evolved person has this once dominant portion of their brain suppressed and defaults to a more logical interpretation of the physical world. If the less evolved person were to take a dozen sledge hammer bashings to the head, the primitive brain would still stay intact. This would ultimately lead to death by way of sudden stupidity.

It's funny, my wife and I were talking recently about getting a new car and she brought up SUVs. I shot that down quick though. We have one son who will be 4 years old in August. We have a 4 door fullsize sedan (a Nissan Maxima) that is plenty large enough to haul the three of us anywhere we need to go.

Would it be nice to have a big truck or SUV for the rare occassion we could actually use one? Yes, it would, but is it a necessity? Hell no. And with gas prices at $3.50/gallon you would think more people would do the same type of evaluation of their needs.

Maybe when it gets up to $5/gallon...

What crawled up your ass today?

And FYI, not all SUVs are gas guzzlers. My mom's highlander (granted it isn't the same as most other SUVs) get excellent mileage. She enjoys the higher ride and the extra space in the back.

25% is a worst case scenario for a rear drive setup and an automatic transmission. It might be true for a Suburban though, but the truth is that there are several other components where there is hp loss.

It's a good estimate that keeps things simple. You can take into account warm weather, humidity, bad tuning, bad gas, and who knows what you end up with.

What exactly are you arguing? That it makes more than 300whp or less?

If you took the engine from that, put it in a bathtub with wheels, THEN you'd have a car to be proud of, and definately no soccer mum comments. Promise.

?? There are plenty of sub-4 liter engines with upwards of 1000 horsepower (the 4th gen Supra comes to mind), so 400hp is well within the limits of believability.

If you drive a Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon, you've gotta be able to deal with the soccer mom stigma, because that's who drives them.

that said, sweet ride. =) I'd love to see you smoke 300hp civics who think they're hot sh*t.

he wouldnt even be able to beat a stock 99 civic SI

lol 160hp ftw!

We're entitled to. SUVs pose a danger to smaller vehicles, they obstruct our view, they take up too much room and they consume so much gas that they're probably single handedly causing gas prices to go up.

It's not a matter of it costing more $ to go from point A to point B and whether or not you can afford it or not. It's a matter of using up twice as much fuel, polluting the air more, and most of the time they only have one occupant.

It's not. a 300HP civic better be close to 11's in the 1/4 mile. a 400 HP suburban, 13's maybe.

Be careful and try not to back-up over any small children or 1 story houses.

Are the brakes or any other essential components upgraded on that beast? New brakes would probably be a good idea to stop that tank if you go fast.

Ya know, only thing I can say is tough sh1t. If you're so bothered by not being able to see around my truck then get a bigger vehicle. If you're worried that you're gonna end up like a crumpled tin can if I hit ya, then get a bigger vehicle. And you know, I can afford the gas, so I'm sorry you're so poor that a couple cents more per gallon is causing you to worry.

Your reading comprehension leaves much to be desired.

Did I not say that it's not a matter of $$$ but a matter of how much more gas you're wasting? It takes me 1 gallon to get from point A to point B, it takes you 2.

Factor in how much that adds up to annually, multiply it by the number of SUVs on the road and that's a lot of wasted gas. Wasted gas that's draining the dimishing oil resources and jacking up the price for everyone else.

Its a good mix for me. Its no rocket, but it'd outrun 80% of what's on the road right now. (straightline only, of course ) It makes a 5000lb. behemoth not seem quite so cumbersome.

Make sure your brakes work before you start outrunning those 80%

Congrats on the purchase
