Got a PS3 with a power cord only, what else should I get?

I picked up a used 250GB PS3 "Super Slim" for $90 the other day but only comes with a power cord.

I'm not interested in dumping a lot into it, as I do most gaming on my PC.

What will I need to hook it up to my TV? Looks to be just a regular HDMI, no proprietary Sony adapter needed?

Controller wise, do I just need to grab a PS3 controller off Amazon? There any third party ones that are decent or will just any Bluetooth one work?

Recommended games? If it's on the PC, not interested in having it on the PS3. I don't care for sports, and not big on multiplayer.

Thinking Red Dead Redemption, God of War, what else?

Can games be loaded to the HD? If I throw a spare SSD in there will it do any good? Or just use it as is.

And can I use this thing to replace my Roku? I usually just use Amazon Prime.

Other than the power cord you'll just need any HDMI cable to connect it to your TV. I'd avoid 3rd party controllers and just pick up a Dual Shock 3. You will need a usb charging cable if you don't have one. You'd be fine using the PS3 with amazon prime instant video as long as you don't mind using a controller. The top games I would recommend are:

God of War trilogy
Uncharted trilogy
Metal Gear Legacy Collection
Red Dead Redemption
Last of Us

Some other good console exclusives:

Infamous 1/2
God of War Ascension (only if you really like God of War - the others are all better)
Ni No Kuni - Great RPG

250 Mb is more than enough. You can digitally download games but it'll be much cheaper buying them retail or used than from psn. Games are installed on the hard drive but you still need the disc to play.

Throwing an SSD will help. You don't need much space, if you play a few games at a time. I have a 128GB in mine and it's about half full.

More exclusives not mentioned above:
Ratchet and Clank Future series
Ratchet and Clank Collection
Shadow of the Colossus/ICO

1) It uses a standard HDMI cable. Only the analogue outputs use a proprietary cable. It's the same one used as the PS2. Only need it for composite and component, or RCA audio.

2) Sony did crack down on third party controllers years ago. I was mighty angry when my Nyko Frontman guitar stopped working. I'm not sure what the situation is like now. Often the first party controllers are better quality though.

3) Recommended games? Red Dead is a great game, though you may not like shooting with the controller. God of War series is extremely overrated IMO. PS3 has lots of great exclusives.

4) Red Dead is good if you can get used to the controller for shooting. The God of War series is extremely overrated IMO. Here's some games worth checking out.

-Uncharted Series
-Ratchet & Clank Future (Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty, Crack in Time)
-Resistance Series
-LittleBigPlanet 2
-Infamous series
-Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
-Bayonetta (However, if you have a Wii U, get that version instead)
-Okami HD (May very well be my all time favourite game)
-The Ico Collection
-3D Dot Game Heroes (It's a blatant Zelda clone/parody, but still fun)
-Valkyeria Chronicles (hard copies are getting rare though, it's now on PC too)
-Disgaea series (Great tactical RPG that parodies anime and Japanese pop culture)
-Grand Theft Auto V
-Gran Turismo 6
-The Last of Us

5) Some disc based games install to the hard drive, but a lot don't. It's dependent on the developer. The PS3 does take any standard 2.5'' drive including SSDs. You'll see a small performance boost but I personally prefer more space. Especially if you're downloading.

6) I believe it supports Amazon Prime, but don't quote me on that. We don't get that here. I use mine for Netflix. Works fine. You can even stream video from your own DLNA server. The PS3 is pretty robust as a media player. Shame the same can't be said about it's successor.

The Sony bluetooth remote is handy for blu-ray/DVD, Amazon, Netflix, etc., it's nicer to use it than a controller for watching TV.
