Fight the ticket, ignore the other idiots here telling you not to.

Ask the prosecutor to give you a ticket for Unsafe Driving instead. No points, but a bigger fine. You can only do this twice...

In New York there are 3 ways I know of to get out of a ticket's points or entirely out of it.
1) Plead guild to a reduced charge. If you haven't gotten a ticket in 18 months, usually they'll let you plead guilty to a charge like parking on pavement, no points but still about $150ish.
2) Request a supporting deposition. This only works if the cop doesn't get it to you in a certain time period. My wife whose idea of speeding is 66 in a 65 got a bs charge of not stopping at a stop sign when she did. The cop knew he was in the wrong and never sent us the deposition. We went to court the last time, told the judge we never got a supporting deposition and she was off with no points or fines.
3) Just plead guilty, pay your fine and go to traffic school. 3-5 hours later you'll still have the fine and the cost of traffic school but 4 points will be off your license which here translates to any speed up to 29mph over the limit

Talk about dickheads!

Most everyone here who got bagged breaking traffic laws, took it like a man and paid their fine without whining and trying to weasle their way out of it.

QFT

that doesn't give you the right to get on your high horse everytime someone comes asking for some advice...

I've sped plenty, only been caught a few times, but only recieved warnings so far (country cops)...

Who's on a high horse? When someone tries to find a way to cheat the system or get away with something they know they did wrong, it's considered getting on a "high horse" by telling him he should pay the ticket?

Wow, you're logic is amazing.

hahah lol

at least in this country you can either pay up and get the points on your licence or you can go to speeding to school (if its your first offence) and as long as you attend, (they use scare tactics to shock you into thinking twice about speeding) then you dont get the fine or the points.

But you already admitted to going at 80mph. That fact alone says you are guilty of speeding. If you say not guilty in court, wouln't that be a complete lie?
Also isn't there something called a Prayer for Judgement? Might not be available in your state.
Sorry, I didn' read the whole thread.

like how should i fight it though? im doing a google search right now, and all the ticketing fighting sites say "plead not guilty"

but like i cant just lie.

if i plead guilty, is there any way they could let me off with less of a fine?

suck it up and plead guilty

that sentence would have been perfectly fine in this way "but I can't just lie." Why do people put like in between every freaking like sentence. its like, you know like, retarded, like!!!!!!! :|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|

wow, this is extremely dumb,

I just found out that there is a surcharge that was put into place in August 1st. If you are going 20 mph or more over the speed limit, you have to pay a lot more. For my ticket instead of the total being $135 its now $218

The funny thing was my ticket form was outdated! It didnt include the surcharge nor did the officer make mention of it, or hand out a green sheet that mentions the update, like he's supposed to. the form just states $135

I called the office though to verify and they said I had to pay the larger fine, regardless of what the ticket said.

I think thats total bs. if the cop made the mistake to hand out the wrong information, the county should honor that and charge me the lower ticket price.

Sorry slugger, the law is the law... you pay whatever the law says the fine is. You don't have much chance of fighting the amount of the fine. Scratch that, you don't have any chance. (and it's not a "price," by the way )

In many locations they don't even tell you how much the fine is, you have to call and find out on your own.

This isn't pricematchin at Circuit city, it's paying a pre-written fine for breaking a law.

How about this...don't speed. You were going 23 mph over the posted speed limit. You took a calculated risk...pay up.

you can't really fight it, no point in doing so. you broke the law so there is no point in going through the hassle.

here in nebraska they give you the option of a STOP class. its more expensive than the ticket but it does not go against your driving record. so its like you never got the ticket. they only let you take it once every 3 years though.

maybe they have something like that where you are from.

So... you were speeding... got ticketed for doing it... and you think it's justified to want to fight it?

Yep, happens everyime someone gets a ticket. Just admit guilt, pay it, and learn the lesson. Stop trying to justify breaking a clear and obvious rule of driving... that's really all there is to it.

Rules of driving should be enforced to protect safety, not to be nuisance nor to enrich the city's coffers. Many traffic laws do only that. A three lane road, two in the morning, no traffic - no safety issue, but the ticket will stick. The city and the insurance company will be paid and the cop will get promoted. The system works!

Last two accidents I had were when I was sitting still or moving less than five mph. Speeding and safety are relative. He clearly stated that the road was clear and safe. He shouldn't have the right to make that determination?

no safety issue? what about the safety to himself?
what if he loses control of his car? that means police, fire, ambulance, and whatever other personnel will need to come save his ass or worse, come take him to the morgue.

fine is $135

is there any way to fight this in court? Is they only way that they would let me off easier would be if I pleaed as not guilty?

Like I cant just lie in court, that would be purgery and i could get in serious trouble for that.
so what are my options??

You admitted your guilt to the cop. Pay the ticket and go on with life.

No attorney present and I bet the cop didn't warn him that his statement could be used against him. Never say anything incriminating to a cop! My last serious one was when a pedestrian actually walked into me. I made the mistake of saying that he had stepped in front of me. Took me four sessions in court to be adjudicated "not guilty" on that one. Finally convinced the judge that "in front of me" was similar to "the cat is underfoot". No one ever walks on their cat and the vic walked into the side of my car. Two cops and the commonwealth attorney lied in court on that one.

is this guy for real? is this guy alright? 78 over 55 is excessive. they are pretty lenient letting others who do 5-10 over the speed limit and often even 14 and under. maybe ya need to respect the speed law? maybe ya need to slow down like the cop says. there is a reason why they set the speed limit, please think why it is not safe to drive too fast.
speeders are impatient, speeder think they have a right to go fast then most others cutting in lines, following closely. are ya like that?
