It all depends on the judge, the officer, and your previous record. In my case, I didnt have any previous speeding tickets, the officer cut a deal with me before the judge came in. Your best bet is to plead not guilty, go to the hearing, and put yourself at the judges mercy. Take all responsibility.

edit: oh, and no the cop cant add charges on like reckless driving. It really isnt much of a court procedure. You will be in and out within 5 minutes. Its just the judge, the officer, and you. Mine took less than 30 seconds. Just be as polite as possible, dont try to deny anything you actually did.

Even if you think the officer is a dick, chances are he wont remember anything more than what is written on the ticket about you, so be as nice as you can to him.

Points are not relevant when it comes to insurance.

What he clocked me at was probably accurate. I told him i figured i may had been doing up to 80, when he asked how fast i thought i was going.
fine is $135

is there any way to fight this in court? Is they only way that they would let me off easier would be if I pleaed as not guilty?

Like I cant just lie in court, that would be purgery and i could get in serious trouble for that.
so what are my options??

Ooh you should never admit guilt! Not if you want to go to court, anyhow.

If you have the balls and time you can still go to court.

"I know I said I may have been going 80, but upon further recollection I am now certain it was 55."

You know what would be funny (if I ever get another ticket I am so going to do this) is to go to court and INSIST, spend like ten minutes explaining how it could be possible, that you were going 77, NOT 78.

The whole point of going to court is basically hoping the cop will not show up. Or that you get a nice judge who will lower the fine just to get you to shut up.

Remember going to court has nothing to do with having a winning case. It is always your word versus the policeman so you are always wrong.

If nothing else you are helping out a fellow driver by getting that cop in the courtroom instead of on the highway.

They say that if everyone fought their ticket it would clog up the system and police would rarely give tickets.

Of course they are idiots though and what would eventually happen is that they would change the system and then nobody would get off.

I don't have a problem with cops pulling people over for saftey's sake, just to make sure someone isn't drunk/high/whatever, but if you're going to say you're going to take my word that I haven't been doing drugs/alcohol, don't ask me the same questions 5 times in a row, or make up lies that I smell like alcohol to justify giving me the sobriety test.

You do realize that the cop is trying to buy time to check for signs of being impared. Whether he smelled alcohol or not, he probably just couldn't be certain simply having a conversation with you.

How many people to you think admit that they are drunk when pulled over for drunk driving without being intimidated into it?

Would you prefer all cops to ask people, take their word for it, then be on their way?

Sucks man. An officer can use trickery and deceit in furtherance of an investigation or to obtain a confession, but if you lie to the police it is obstruction of justice. Still we have a better system than most third world countries. In Soviet Russia confession beats you out.

Tru dat.

Officers are essentially treated as gods among men, and given practically enough power to rule the country. not just enforce law in it, but take it over and do whatever they want with it.
