Suck it up, ask to go to traffic school. Be glad he wrote it as speeding, and not wreckless driving. And slow down!!

That being said, when I was young, dumb & full of.....well, you know!.....I got a speeding ticket in similar circumstances, going over the Richmond-San Rafael bridge, in the northern SF Bay area. Posted speed limit was 55, at the time, and I estimate my speed was in excess of 100. Probably approaching 110 (remember, that was in the days of 85 mph speedometers, and I had it pegged on the trip odometer reset button peg).

I had actually slowed back down to almost the speed limit, by the time the cop caught up enough to come over the last (2nd) rise of the bridge, with his red light on, to pull me over. But I had no idea how fast he had clocked me, so when he asked me if I knew how fast I was going, I sorta shook my head, smiled, and asked him if HE knew how fast I was going??

Luckily for me, he had only had a chance to clock me at 70mph, before he lost sight of me. He wrote it for 70+ in a 55 zone, and I didn't contest it. :sneaky:

It's a public road not your personal race track that caters to your every whim. Every post you make just shows that you have absolutely no interest what so ever in your own safety, much less those of the other people on the road.

Quite frankly it's amazing you even got a driver's license to begin with.

Today I learned cars go on race tracks at 60MPH.

LOL, k. Whatever you say.

Been driving now for about two decades and despite having lived in 5 different states in that time (and driving through most of the others), and despite the fact that I exceed the posted speed limit regularly, I have never gotten a single ticket.

And mind you, I've lived in some areas where the cops love them some tickets. Particularly Washington state, where their tax system necessitates them not only milking drivers any chance they get, but hitting them VERY hard when they do. I heard some horror stories out there from other guys in the Navy about some very sizable fines.

My secret? I am reasonable about it.

I go over the limit by a reasonable amount (4 or 5 mph usually) and it's very contextual. I pay attention to my surroundings, I make it my concern to be aware of the speed limit by looking for signs, and if it's daytime and I'm on the highway between towns (frequently am) I will go up to maybe about 15 over the limit in certain circumstances, if the rest of traffic is doing so, etc. I make sure I'm never the juiciest target for the cops, though. I always let some Massachusetts driver (I'm in Connecticut and they zoom through) be the fastest one out there on the road. They oblige.

At night, it's much easier to be the most tempting target for the cop because you may be the only car he sees for a while. So at night, I am more careful still. 4 or 5 mph over on those same highways, and not an iota over in the towns.

Your situation sounds like it may not have been entirely your own fault if it was a 5 lane and if the speed limit signs were poorly placed (if I read you right, the last sign you could've seen was a 50 and you hadn't yet reached the first one to say 40?) so I sympathize. If you go to court over it, I agree with what someone else said, be respectful and humble.

And whether you beat this ticket or not, use this as a learning experience and from now on, play it smarter and be more reasonable about how you speed. If you don't, you'll be paying a lot of tickets over the coming years. Particularly if your state needs revenue badly.

That is a very good point. And yeah, the last sign I passed said 50MPH, but the cop told me it was a 40MPH zone. I wasn't gonna argue with him given they have a pretty bad reputation here of abusing their power.

I'll be calm when I go to court, but of course hoping the cop doesn't show up in the first place.

you guys are trying to talk logically to a snot nosed kid. He needs to learn the hard ware.

We should encourage him to speed more. Maybe he will Darwin himself and we can all finally go back to flaming Alky

Looks like you have some personal issues you need to get over.

I got thrown off my game. I'm sorry for being a dick lately.

You see...I am a single dad. Lil rudeguy is 16 and I've had him full time since he was 1. I've always made sure he is taken care of, never asked for a handout. His mom is a deadbeat who doesn't work. The only thing I have ever asked her to do is pick him up from school so I could work. For 10 years that worked. Last year I started paying her to do it because it wasn't worth fighting with her about gas money.

Fast forward to this year. The first day of school I drop him off in the morning. I get a call at 3 pm from lil rudeguy. His mom didn't show. I left work and picked him up. That night his mom told him that she had to babysit, so she wasn't going to be able to pick him up from school. Well shit. So the next day I left work early again to get him from school. But I can't lose my job, so we transferred him to online schooling.

So for the past 2 weeks I've had to run around getting all the paperwork and dumb stuff for school taken care of even though I had no idea what I was doing.

Of course his insulin pump picked this time to act up. Well fuck me. I'm a contractor right now, so no insurance. I don't get much of a choice, so I started the paperwork to get him a new pump. But the first thing the pump companies want is insurance info. Apparently paying cash is something they aren't used to. I'm still fighting that battle.

So yea...I've been a bit stressed. Sorry for taking it out on you guys.

After you made this thread, don't even think for a second anyone is gonna take you seriously. Sounds like you need to grow up and stop taking out your personal issues on everyone else.

Contact the local DoT to find out what the limit is on that stretch of road. Find out where the speed limit signs are and where the limit changes.

When was the road last evaluated for speed limit safety?

Use these records to support your case rather than pulling info out if the air. Trying to do that and the judge will hand you the book.

Was the radar calibrated and when. If he paced you, forget about the radar.

While I agree, your reply was akin to putting your hands on your ears and shouting "NEENER-NEENER-NEENER I CAN'T HEAR YOU!"

Heh.

If he can't stand the fact that I'm not going there to take a picture just to show him then too bad. And, if the cop does show up, I'd only be able to reduce the fine to $100. The cop will just say that I saw the radar display, which he did show me. That is, of course, if the cop does show up.

Your time in court will be OT for the LEO.

Will do.

He wasn't pacing; he showed me the speed the radar picked up.
