Doesn't look too bad. Yeah, that was a warning chomp. Looks like it snagged the skin right above the nail - when that splits it bleeds a lot, and yes you should clean it - animal bites can get infected - but I've done worse to myself.

The dog we had when I was a kid was a champion warning chomper. He'd gnaw - usually closing down two or three times really rapidly - on you just hard enough to leave a dent, not even break the skin, and then get this smug attitude. Hurt like hell.

He was kind of a nuts dog. But then, we were evil little kids, so it all worked out. When we both got older, things calmed down and we were buds.

I always wondered if being the victim I would feel differently about my feelings, but this incident made me realize I still feel the same way.

I agree 100%.

We are smart enough to know that if you stick your hand out to a dog, it COULD bite.

You took the same calculated risk and got bit... you were comfortable with the risk and dealt with the result. You didn't get mad because you knew the risks.

Children, on the other hand, cannot make the same risk assessment as adults.

Therefore, biting dogs should be kept out of the public.
Leave them at home, in the back yard, on the farm, in their kennel, chained up, whatever. Just keep them away from ignorant people.
