sorry, i thought i covered that. they have stated basically they aren't paying and too bad for me but to put it online and distribute the rdps, and also can you look at a couple of our people's laptops and check them out and bring them up-to-date if they need it. the audacity has become incredible. i couldn't make this stuff up. i wouldn't have brought this whole thing up unless they didn't say they wouldn't pay, i just wouldn't have done biz w/ them again and gave them what they paid for, but since they have said they won't pay and too bad to me, that is why i am pondering the wiping of the hdd since i got them empty. basically i acquired all the pieces through their means, which i do not want - they will get that stuff back, i put the puzzle together.

Now that we have more information, I can understand your being pissed.

#1 from now on ALL work should have a written contract to go with it....ALWAYS....if people get offended or upset...too bad...they need you more than you need them.

#2 kindly remind your customer that since there was no contract, and no payment...you cannot guarantee your services. So after you send them a WRITTEN bill detailing services rendered....if they don't pay up in say 5-10 days....pull their shit, give them back their systems exactly the way you got it, and write it off as a lessoned learned.

No payment = no services rendered. Undo your work and give them back what they own. If they change their mind and are suddenly willing to pay, you've just become very busy and couldn't possibly do it for less than double what you worked out previously.

after reading your updated explanation I agree that you should give them everything back in the condition you received it, and take down their website.

Back up everything first, so when they offer to pay you to fix it, you can get $$ very easily because all the work is done. Then sever business ties entirely. IMHO.

Pondering nuking hdd

wow... that is much easier to read, add that to the orig post.

Undo the work that you did, but don't nuke the HDD...

If you are really pissed make a back up of the HDD then nuke it and tell them you can recover to x amount paid upfront

You deserve to be paid for your work. If they're too cheap to pay they can find someone else to throw a piece of crap together for free or next to nothing.

This will give them exactly what they paid for, nothing else. If they balk offer to restore the image for at least your original price, maybe a bit more for your troubles. Don't host this for them again, offer to sell them the domain for a reasonable price and tell them to have someone else host it because after this you are done with them. If you did the work to set up their website don't give it to them unless they pay you for it. Get any payment up front in full.
This.

Be sure to keep their logo and other information on it so that any client who attempts to view the site knows that it's still theirs and the shit they pull.

If you take your car to a shop, you don't get it back until you pay. How is this any different? No pay, no computer back. Seems quite simple.

Mechanic's lien, when they pay you, they get the machine.

edit; you own their web site domain, that's a ten grand price tag right there.

You have their box, own their domain name, do their hosting and they are dissing you?
This is starting to seem odd. Unless Rollo Mather/Maxster is your client, no one is this stupid.

i not only own their main domain name but the name is a bit weird so i instructed them to get close spellings of it, and when i bought it since they wouldn't on godaddy, godaddy was running a special, so i have like 10-15 of what they could use as other domains.

sadly, this is a true situation. i wish it wasn't this stupid. their level of stupidity is worse than being shown here but i don't want to get into that. i am just pissed about this immediate situation and the disrespect received from it.

2nd image being created / verified....

I like the comment about taking their website down and putting up
"Site suspended for failure to pay hosting fees." or something similar.

THAT should get their attention pretty quickly.

ignore the fucktards above...the way they respond must mean they are used to ripped people off.

Just return the machine like it was when you got it.

k-line the website or re-serve it

sell their domain name or just keep your new site up.

principle > cash.

I have dealt with this kind of thing a few times...the most classic case was when the fuck decided to enter the gym I workout at demanding I restore their shit. I had already laid out for weeks about a client not paying me so I was just going to pull the project back.

It was not pretty. No charges were filed.

I did get a check that was good sent to me though and delivered their goods.
