Depending on how cool your boss is, I suggest asking him or her what the "real" policy is on stuff like this -- in other words, most places have a written policy, but most bosses lean one way or the other way.

I am ALWAYS upfront with my workers. If they cross the line, they are gone. Otherwise, I try to remember we are all human.

i figured that would've been the case here, but some have to learn the hard way.

so be it. i was still trying to adjust to the 8am-5pm timeframe since I used to work the graveyard shift @ blockbuster. live n learn as you all "masters" say. regardless, have a  on me.

just was trying to vent a lil since this job was the best thing to happen to me in awhile. I WAS working for an inbound call center for GM. Sorry I let you all down. :brokenheart:

well DUUHHH, btw, you didn't put the part of midnight shift to day shift in your OP. mb your going for some sympathy points??

regardless, mb i have no life, but i will go to bed at 5 am and STILL get up on time for work. shoot i've done that for weeks at a time.

it's not an option, never was for me, to be late to work.

i can't believe you expected any sympathy. hmmm, let me be an employer for a second, i hire a new kid because he seems to have some promise, i passed up on another kid almost as good, but i thought this one had a smidge more promise, before 2 weeks are up, he's THREE FVCKING HOURS LATE TO WORK without calling in. hmmm, YOUR FVCKING FIRED YOU TOOL.

wow, you really need to take your meds.

I think your problem is that you assumed it would be cool, but when you are new on the job, everyone is watching you more closely -- and you don't know what your boss is really like yet.

No, the government encourages that kind of behavior among its employees.

OnStar? You could have been famous!

(Or at least had your terribly digitized voice on a radio commercial.)

So, learn from this, set those alarm clocks, READ that employee handbook they make you sign for, prove yourself valuable on the job before you pull the no-call no-show (or expect retribution!!!), and don't let those douche-nozzles keep you down for long. Keep applying yourself. (And keep applying to those jobs.)

Your post should have been:

OMG, I am soooo ashamed. I am lucky enough to get a job... in today's economy, with adults that have grown up bills are out of work... and I TOTALLY SCREWED UP! I was not reliable enough to be ontime, slept in andwas THREE HOURS LATE! The fired me, but IT WAS ALL MY OWN FAULT! I will learn a lesson here and make sure it never happens again!

It is the only version of this episode that would be acceptable. To blame them and call them fvckers, is WAY OFF!

Good luck in finding another job.. and as a hint... dont list this job on your next application!

Who cares man, if they are willing to can you that fast it must be a piss poor place to work anyhow. You'll find another job.

Must be a lot of immature jerkoffs in here. If you can't show up on time for a job you just got, you're a dumbass and an idiot.

funny thing with jobs: they expect you to come in when scheduled or give them sufficent time to find someone to take your shift if you cant make it

I've got an alarm clock as well...my 19 month old son. He's up at 6:30AM EVERY morning. I don't have the luxury of sleeping in EVER!!!

I've gone to work so hung over I could barely sit there without puking (and I was on time). You have no excuse. How do you oversleep by 3 hours? I can see oversleeping by 30 minutes (assuming you're not hungover) but 3 hours? C'mon!!!

You deserved to be fired.

Here's hoping you find an even better job though.:beer::beer:

"Shift"? I don't think we're talking about a "shift" job here...At least I hope not...

y do u assume that it isn't?

if it is 4 onstar like he claims, it is truly a shift job. one where punctuality will be very important.

so, ya, even if he was ONLY in training, how he performs in training will be viewed as an example of how he will perform for real. hence, the last thing they would want is someone that shows up 3 hours late for a shift.

if you were 3 hours late to the interview, they probably wouldn't have even hired you.

it's called being responsible.

sorry bud, you shouldn't need that explained to you.

Ok, that may also have something to do with it then. That's why I loved my job; I could do it any time, and there was no need to be there at any specific time (except for meetings and such).

There's not much love in here for the OP, but if it clues some other people in to how important it is to be on time for work every day, then something good came out of this thread.

For the record, I might not have fired someone in that situation, depending on how they explained it to me. Not what the story is - I've heard them all - but how they presented their excuse. There have been a couple who did a similar thing early in their probation period, and gave me a good BS story. I don't worry about giving a second chance, though, because the slackers will screw up again quickly.

The way I handle it is to send them home for the day and I tell them I'll think about what happened, and call them later to tell them whether or not they still have a job.

Heh, that's why I love the government, because you'd never get away with that...it's damn near impossible to fire someone who doesn't want to leave.

I can understand the frustration and needing to vent....but your original post came across, I think, as immature. Oh, and reffering to us as "masters" doesnt help. We're just more versed in how the word works
