lol @ the responses here

Like I said, it's not an issue of paying the $ 6, the issue is being black mailed into paying it or else I lose my deposit, that's not cool. If I was renting that is a different story, I agree, be an ass all you want although even then they can defer fee's to be paid at a later time.

I worked in the customer service industry, I know how it's like, in fact I worked as a bouncer for 2 years. In that field of work, you can either be a total asshole and get into major confrontations, or you can be smart about your work and talk to people nicely. What the guy at blockbuster did today was get into a confrontation and he was a total asshole about it. It's not his job to be the fee GESTAPO and use deposits for retail movies as leverage.

He acted thug style, it's alright, if I ever run into him personally away from blockbuster it will be a different story

Yup, DMs are actually good about contacting you, and they'll straighten it out in a heartbeat. Just be respectful to the DM / stay on his good side.

Judging by the internet tough guy responses by the OP, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the one who made a mountain out of a molehill.

Probably

Having worked in retail, I can think of all the times people won't accept responsibility for anything.

You used your account to reserve a copy. It doesn't matter if it's a retail purchase, you're the one who brought your account into the transaction. The clerk was only doing what he's supposed to by collecting late fees. If you don't want to be responsible for your mother's fees, tell her to get her own account.

Actually you don't need to use your account to reserve a copy. You can walk into the store, put a deposit, they print a receit, and that's that. Just that I so happened to be renting movies at that time they put the transaction on a single receit. How hard is it get through your thick skulls that one has nothing to do with the other? The guy was being a total douche, end of story. I don't know whether he had balls or he was a total obnoxious suburb teen idiot, but I am thinking the latter.

Well tough shit then if they just so happened to put it on a single receipt. I would've paid the fucking thing and went home.

Take the $6 you would've paid them and buy a ski mask and a toy gun. Hold the clerk and everyone in the store hostage and wait till the police arrive. Then take off your mask and tell everyone it was just a joke and a funny way to get revenge for the aforementioned hassle you had with the clerk. Explain in great detail. They'll understand.

You need a blockbuster account to pre-order movies/games. Because once you put $5 down, the pre-order is attached to your account, so you receive the item minus the fee already paid. You fail.

You weren't blackmailed. It sounds like he was going to apply the deposit to the fine.

I don't know. You rent something, you don't return it on time, and you potentially cost them another rental. Its kills profit. It hurts business, which in turn hurts the economy. So I feel bad for the blockbuster that your mom is hurting their company due to laziness.

If you didn't need to give them a card to swipe, why did you?

This reminds me of a story:

A wanted murderer went to policestation to report a stolen car.

Murderer: Hi, Id like to report a stolen car.
Police: Ok, but youre wanted for murder so we will have to arrest you.
Murderer: Im not here because of that, so you cant.
Police: Oh yea thats right! Sorry about that...

True story, at least according to the OP...
