I had a few friends every Army PT test would knock out 100+ pushups every test even tho they only needed 70 something (depending on age group) for 100 score. For the test you get 2 mins to do as many pushups as you can. Passing was around 52 pushups for a 19 year old. (going off memory no chart in front of me).
You know going from 70 to 100 in a 43% increase in work. It may not sound like much but I can bench 345 3 times but increase the reps or weight by 43% and it becomes 490lbs or 4.29 reps obviously 4 reps would be considerably easier than adding over 100lbs but I'm just proving a point. Similar to going from a 5 rep max to 7 and acting like it's nothing.
Or to put it into context of pushups that like saying I can do 50 pushups in a min, 71 is not hard at all...
Completely different animal. Doing over 70 pushups in a minutes means you are flying through them and they are nearly effortless. Yes I get tired at 70 but taking 20-30s break I'm ready for another 30 easily a my initial pace. If you can bench 345 I would assume 100 pushups in 2 minutes would be easy for you as well.
