Got In A Car Accident Yesterday

So I was driving home from my client site yesterday and I got into a 6 car accident. I was cruising and slowing down for a red light when it turns green. In the lane I was in an Acura TL hit an SUV which caused my lane to stop. I guess the car in front of me didn't notice it and kept cruising until he ran into that car. I was able to stop with about 6 feet to spare when I look in my rear view mirror. The Jeep Cherokee behind me made it with probably a foot to spare when I heard a loud screech which was the car behind it trying to break but ended up hitting the Jeep. The minivan was going so fast the Jeep was on top of the hood of the minivan with the back tires inside the van's windshield. The only damage that my car took was maybe 2 minor scratches that are pretty much unnoticeable and can be buffed out. I was wondering if this accident is going to go on the Carfax for my car? The reason why I'm wondering this is because I just bought my car a month ago. It's a 2008 Lexus IS350 and I would hate to see an accident to go on it's record when the damage is nonexistent. Hopefully someone can shed some light to this predicament for me.




Cliff Notes: Got rear ended in my 1 month old 2008 Lexus IS350. Pretty much no damage but 2 minor scratches that can be buffed out. Will this accident show up on my car's carfax?

Carfax gets their info from your state department of transportation. Basically if you were included in the police report, it'll eventually show up on the Carfax report.

Unfortunately, it will. You and your vehicle were involved in the auto accident and will go into the report which gets sent to the DOT, as tfinch said.

The guy in the jeep stopped in time. The guy in the minivan rear-ended the jeep and pushed him into the OP's car.

Thats why the person that was driving the van is going to get fucked in terms of blame, and rightfully so!

Carfax gets data from hundreds of sources. Did the report list your car as damaged? If so, did it specify the damage? Did you report this to your insurance company or make a claim against another's?

I haven't made any claims yet cause I was hoping to keep it off of Carfax. But since it is going to show up I think I'm going to have to make claims and go to the doctors to get checked out. I had my hernia surgery about a month ago and kinda want to see if anything happened to where they cut me at. Also since it's going to show up on my Carfax the value of my car is going to depreciate. Can I sue to get the difference in value of my car due to the depreciation.

That shouldn't hurt the resale value. It should depreciate more from age alone than what the carfax report will show.

Well I just pulled the Carfax for it and nothing yet.
