Coming home from work I got into an accident in my Pontiac G6. Part of a road right by my house has a huge S-curve. It was rainy and cold so the roads were a bit slick. I wasn't going fast (under the posted speed limit) but when I tapped on the brakes during the curve, my wheels locked up. I skidded across the opposite lane of travel (fortunately no cars were oncoming), went down into a small ditch and struck a tree.

Anyways, GF came and picked me up and took me to the hospital after the police report was made and tow came. I'm doing fine and not even that sore. Back's just a little stiff and my left shin is bruised slightly. I was wearing my seat-belt. Now I get to deal with getting the car fixed/insurance company. Good times....

Just glad I didn't get hurt and that I was the only one involved in the accident. It's definitely not an experience I want to be in again any time soon.

And since I know it will be asked: pic of GF and I

Damn man, glad you're okay. I've been REALLY lucky... twice I've run into the ditch, and both times my car was undamaged. The first time I had only had my license for a few months, maybe a year, and it was the first time I had really driven in snow. Hit the brakes too quickly and slid right off the road. Luckily I ran into a snowbank and was fine. Wasn't even late for school! A friend happened to drive by 5 minutes later and picked us up (my mom went out to the car and called AAA, who towed it for free).

Second time I hit the brakes on a curve when I saw a deer. Again, I hit the brakes too hard, and although the conditions weren't bad, brakes + turning was not a good combo. Again I slid off the road, managed to drive out with no damage other than a few pieces of grass under the hubcaps.

I don't believe it's totalled. Insurance is going to go take a look at it, but I think it's fixable. The only thing that it got really was the radiator, as I was leaking coolant, but I was able to drive the car up onto the tow. We'll see what happens though. I'm hoping it's not totalled as I haven't completely paid off THIS car yet. (Just got it last year).

Sucks because before this car, I had never been in an accident. Within the first month buying the car, I had an idiot back up into me in a parking lot (got that repaired) and now this. Shit happens I guess.

Glad you are doing OK. Two years ago, I got into a nasty accident when these stupid teenagers was screaming at the driver to cut from the middle lane to the exit(they missed the entrance of the exit). The damage to my car looked worst that than and the repair company fixed it back like it was brand new. Progessive was really good in handling everything, they went and got the car from the towing company and brought it back to their shop, repaired it and pretty much took care of everything.

Edit: Props for the pic.

Glad you aren't injured. I was in an accident on Tuesday. A woman on her cell phone turned right on red without stopping and hit me as I was making a left turn with a green. She was in a 9 zillion pound SUV which tossed my Ford Explorer like a piñata into the concrete median. People suck.

How did the wheels just 'lock up'? If you were going under the posted speed limit (which are already ridiculously low), there should have been no chance for the car to lose control unless it is a major piece of crap (very likely, pontiac) or you are a crappy driver (also very likely).

I just don't get it... my dads GF totaled her brand new accord in the rain, she never goes above the speed limit and somehow managed to spin out of control. WTH are you people doing?

The G6's are horrible in the rain, and also the snow. One of my coworkers had one and it felt like it gets no traction. Of course that is probably cause it is front wheel and the engine is way too light.

Does the G6 have ABS? This sounds almost like what happened to my mom in her ricer Eclipse (with no ABS). She was driving to work, going uphill around a curve and the ground was wet from early-morning dew, saw a squirril and she hit the brakes hard because she wasn't used to a car without ABS and they locked up. She spun 180 and slid into a dirt embankment/shallow ditch and ruined her passenger fender, front bumper cover, passenger headlight and right front rim.

However, black duct tape fixes all on a black car.

I think this is it. I know I wasn't speeding though. I never speed down that stretch because that curve is so dangerous. Also, I know because if anything:

1) there'd be more damage to the car if I was and
2) I'd probably have a more severe injury than just a stiff neck/back, and my shin being sore a little and
3) I probably would have knocked the tree over as it was a small to medium sized tree I struck.

I think as I was negotiating the last curve, going probably about the speed limit, I realized I was going a bit faster than I should have and I overcompensated with the brakes by hitting them too hard which caused me to go into the skid.
