Constantly stated, yet never once has it mattered.

Groove will be on to the next thing before 3GB matters, 4GB on the 290 will never differentiate it from the 780 Ti, just like 2GB on the 6970 has never lead it to an advantage over the 1.5GB 580.

It's a nice talking point, but selling it in fact is a whole different situation.

Now when BF4 is using just under 4GB in crossfire I won't call the extra GB overkill since it's already being utilized.

I agree for the $150 premium 6GB could be justifiable.

What it can use, and what it needs are two different things.

I wouldn't pay a dime more for 6GB over 3GB, because I generally don't like to toss money at things that aren't a problem.

What it can use, and needs might be different, but why have less than it can use? There are lots of claims like that, is there any proof what it's doing with the extra ram? I'm sure it's not just going to waste since it does utilize it. Anyways that's something to probably not bother discussing because unfortunately people align behind brands too much on it. I'm just "generally" the person who tries to have a little extra vs. just enough or too little. I guess we can drop this, it's going off topic.

Either way, I'm not saying you should pay more than $850, but at that price is could/should be included (in my opinion).

It's called a buffer for a reason.

I wouldn't pay $850 for a card that won't do anything special until you get it down to -185C.

This card is a benchmark buster for sure.. I still think too much $$ this late in the 28nm game. I would build a nice steam machine for that coin

I can understand if this is not a card that people will be jumping to purchase (it isn't supposed to be), but should the Anandtech thread on this really be facetious in nature? It doesn't leave room for much discussion.

I am not a fan of recommending dual-GPU solutions over a strong single-GPU, but finding a good deal on 2X 780 (non-TI) or 2X 290(pro) when they are back @ MSRP would be what I would do personally, if $850 was my budget.

Unfortunately, this is now common place, 5 posts in and it was already off the rails.

On topic, I can't wait to see what kinds of overclocks people will get with the voltage control features.

Price is no big deal but Im less than impressed with my 780Ti classified I got a couple weeks ago. 60.2 ASIC and wont even clock as high as my reference 780TI.

A $150 markup over the original MSRP for the Halo chip on the market isn't going to shy away those who can afford the best and actually feel like paying for it.

I have seen some pretty crazy markups on cards recently...this one only strikes me as the normal "bleeding edge tax" crazy, not "did that person look at benchmarks?" crazy.

1800 FPS would be like 5.1 FPS per watt, that will be an epic underclock/volt water cooled $2000+ GPU setup Groooveriding.

Earmuffs for coilwhine?

Looking at the EVGA website, I do like the look of the card, it's definitely engineered very well, since Gigabyte already makes a 450w card, its a very hard sell IMO.

Any audible coil whine during normal conditions and they can build me a new card =)

Isn't it that gigabytes cooler is "450w capable"? I am reasonably sure the Kingpin is the only 780ti currently to give the finger to the green light program.

You bought two tho. Totally cheating.

I just called Jacob and you're getting a special geforce2 mx bios on yours.

Haha. I wish I could quad them with my current cards until my stepups reach the front of the queue, take my HL1 fps over 9000!

I wasn't expecting them to be out so soon. My plan was to take the reference 780ti cards I get from the stepup program, sell them BNIB and get these. Instead I'll have to sit on my current cards until I can step them up and sell the replacements then.

Since the Kingpins are out now I wanted to get them now in case they are a short supply item. I also always feel like the initial batch of custom cards from EVGA tend to be the best ones. If demand continues and they run short on stock they may wind up using lesser binned chips, lower quality memory etc. on the cards to keep stock levels up.

I agree with you there. 780 classified anyone? =P

I am also hoping that they fixed the cooler noise issues since I don't plan to go back to water until Haswell-E. At least the fans are 100mm.

Looks nice. Its not meant to be a practical card and is geared toward overclocking, so I'll save the Vram complaint for later.
Also, the real Kepler is coming soon. They are releasing a full blown kepler with 6gb of ram as you all know, so this Kingpin is STILL a cut down version meant to be a carrot dangling in front of the eager ones, leading them to the real card (which they will also buy several of).

By the time I need 6gb I'll have upgraded to Maxwell proper. I also am not a fan of blowers and I have not seen anything saying Nvidia will allow any custom titan blacks.

Just my reasoning for going with the Kingpin.
