I just got my replacement 2005FPW which is perfect no backlight bleeding and no dead pixels. I looked at the 2007WFP and wasn't impressed they didnt change really anything. all they did was change casing basically and IMO the 2005FPW is a nicer looking monitor. The 2007FP seemed pretty nice but why not go widescreen?

I think IPS is better for me anyway. So I am looking for an IPS screen. That is why I am trying to make sure the 2007FP is IPS before buying it.

Why not go widescreen? Screen real estate. There are Two Hundred Thousand more pixels on the 20" 4:3 screen. The 20" widescreen is only as tall as 17" LCD, so it is more like an 17" made wider IMO.

I've got 2 2007FP's sitting infront of me now. Both have gradient banding issues on DVI which I havn't been able to resolve. I'm debating whether to send them back or just use VGA. Other than this issue it's a great disply.

I wonder if this is really a 6bit panel or if there is something wrong with your DVI. You shouldn't get banding. There was none on my Dell 2405 through DVI and If I got close I could notice slightly better performance of DVI vs RGB, I would defintely want to use DVI. I have an ATI 9700 pro. Known to have excellent DVI performance. Contrary to popular belief perfect DVI is not a given. Can you try another machine?

Yeah, I've also tried it on an X800 thats in my roommates p4 rig. Exactly the same problem. Tired 2 different cables, 2 different panels, 2 different PC's. Results are the same, VGA looks great, DVI has banding.

I really want to like this display but i'm not sure I'll keep it if I can't use DVI.

I've noticed another DVI related Video Defect.

Video play back almost looks like a game with vsync issues. It's far more subtle but you can see the video "redraw" a few pixels off everynow and then. Like a horozonatal line that scrolls through part of the image.

My replacement should be comming today or tuesday. Fingers crossed that it's better.

There was a sale on this monitor that lasts till today. If you have good luck with the new one I might give it a shot. If you get it today and it is better, post ASAP. I assume the sale goes to midnight.

Otherwise I will probably check out my buddies Philips 201B (20" viewable CRT) this weekend and buy a new one of those for <$400.

Good luck.

I doubt it's going to get delivered today. They usually drop off around noon...looks like it'll be monday.

I wonder how reliable that source is.

I'll send it back if it's PVA. I'll buy a 2407 and some other 20" IPS panel.

Which picture? My original or a gradient generated from a program?

If it's my picture it should band on your CRT. If it's from a software like TFT test then you've got issues with your CRT.

I got my third 2007FP today. Still has banding issues. It looks like it's going back. This is simply not good enough.

Anyone got any last ideas?

Be clear why you are returning. Tell them it is production defect in all the panels. Ask them to let you know if they identify and resolve it.

Other than that I am interested if they give you much grief getting your money back.

This just about ends LCD interest for me. Since this didn't get resolved, I will most likely get a 21" CRT for about $400 CDN. Then I won't have viewing angle, excess brightness, burnt pixels, banding or all the other issues that never occured to me when I wanted that greener grass on the LCD side.

«'ve had Dell send out a replacement panel. The gradient problem was due to a factory miss calabration. I was able to get it 99% right by playing with the settings in the service menu.

I'm really happy with it now, but the new one is already on it's way so I'll see if its better. »

Hello,

i have received mine and i have also the banding issue with dvi. You say it is due to a factory miss calibration but i play with it and i see no improvment. What is your method can you explain thank you.

Color is great, brightness is more than enough, but can also be set low enough if you need accuracy.

Mine doesn't have the reflective screen coating.

How did you get into the service menu in the 2007?

I'm really liking my 2007. I just got it two days ago...I don't have any banding issues that I can tell. I calibrated the monitor etc...so hoping it works. COlor seems great, even get some nice hues in slightly filtered photos. Love teh size tooo...but who doesn't? I am coming from a CRT. Only negative is it is a little bright on the eyes in teh dark.

Are you using the display over DVI or VGA?

And what did you use to calibrate the 2007?

The following is a set of instructions on how to access a factory service menu of the Dell 1905FP. It is possible that you could damage your monitor by changing any of the values in this submenu and potentially void your warranty. If you choose to access this menu, you do so at your own risk.

To access the service menu, first turn the monitor off, then press and hold both the menu button and the "+" button while you turn it back on.

Hit the - button to go to the service manu and the + to auto adjust.

I haven't modified anything, but I did some googling and this is how you access the service menu.

I am using the display over DVI.

To calibrate, I first used Hex2bit's calibration wizard, but then I just used the nvidia calibration guide. I found better results using the 2007 ICC profile than the default one.

Bottom line a smooth continuous tone?

I was worried for a sec, there were all these lines, and then I realized that I was looking at the line above...phew. Yes, the bottom line is smooth and continous. I did some gradient checking with checkemon etc before hand.

I also switched it to Mac mode instead of PCA mode, and have ended up turning the birghtness all teh way down to 0.
