I didn't realize that. Around here, there are two charges; DWI - driving while intoxicated, and DUI - driving under the influence. DUI is the lesser offense.
DWI is > .08%
DUI is < .08%, but ability impaired.

ok... Interesting. So I guess if you are doping, it would be DUI?

People with more than 1 DUI should be beaten with a tire iron before being allowed to leave the jail. Maybe brute force can beat into them what being arrested cannot.

I just lost an uncle friday and my aunt was also in the car and probably will die as well because some drunk 26 yr old ran a stop sign he said he didn't see.

MF should be dragged behind the car through the crossing from the way he approached it.

Sorry to hear that.

Oh man. This thread is full of win. Too bad you can't punish people for lack of reading skills.

some people just don't like the 5-0.

Or troll threads like this one.

jlee isn't stupid. He knows that even if he changed it to "Gave my 4th DUI last night" that this thread wouldn't get as many views/replies. Or if he said it in his post that he is a cop. But, no, he'd rather be a dick about it. He'll do the same thing next time it happens.

It's more fun to see the responses and weed out those who read threads and who don't

All you whiners, go complain about the 'haha we tricked you' fake threads. At least mine was not completely misleading.

Is it possible in any way to avoid a DUI by sleeping in your car and throwing your keys someplace not by the drivers seat? Maybe pass out in the back seat or passenger seat? Or, is it as I have heard, that the keys need to be outside of the vehicle if you are going to purposefully pass out inside the vehicle after drinking?

If he didn't have the keys, he would've been arrested for unlawful possession / intoxication (drunk under 21). That's a violation (like a traffic ticket) vs a misdemeanor. Unfortunately for him, he did indeed have the keys, and on top of that, they were in the ignition and he was in the driver's seat. Fortunately someone called it in before he woke up and drove off..

Your parents must be so proud of the fine human being you have become. Truly, you are disgusting, and should be locked away with the key thrown out to prevent you from killing and/or injuring someone. Obviously this is the fourth time you have been caught, but not the fourth time you have been this stupid.

They actually are, thanks.

FWIW, I have never driven while intoxicated.

they can charge you when your within the legal limit?!
What kind of bullshit is that? What do they do to determine whether your ability is impaired or not?
Can that have the same impacts in a person's life as the, in this case, DWI, can have?

There are legal limits for a reason. Being able to get charged when your following legal limits, thus following the law, seems wrong... especially when the "ability is impaired" concept can easily range from cop to cop, with some pushing the "if you had 2 drinks, you're impaired" bullshit angle.

The "ability is impaired" concept is determined from standardized field sobriety tests, the three most common of which are used nationwide. Under NH law, impairment "to any degree" constitutes DUI. If you're over an 0.08, you're considered automatically in violation regardless of impairment.

Yep, that's what my last one was a few weeks ago.

Good work copper.
(where's the dammed thumbsup smilie?)

You must live/work in a rural area or small town.

Around here, if you paid attention, you'd get 3-4 per night.

Fucking drunk drivers should lose their license and serve prison time, not merely get suspended and a few days in the county jail.

think i said it once in the other threads. im suprised the number is so low. i would think you could pretty much get one damn near every week or month if you wanted to.

Small college town with an open campus - the vast majority of people walk.

What about if a person refuses a field sobriety test? They can legally refuse the test with 0 consequences. The only test required by law is a test of a person's BAC.

Also, it's been mentioned before in this thread, but do you pull people over who pass you over the speed limit if they are going like 5-10 over?

Engine wasn't running, but the ignition was on. Under 21, too. Parked on the side of the road in a no parking zone.

So IOW, you issued a DUI to someone who wasn't actually driving their car, but just sleeping it off in their car. How do you sleep at night knowing that you're a bad cop?

jlee, is it an absolute no-no for someone to pass you when you're already doing the limit? Is that an automatic pull-over?

It is just as much speeding for a cop to drive over the limit (without both reason to do so and the lights on) as it is for the person who passes him. For an officer to write a ticket is such a situation would be an example of cynical corruption. That we think nothing unusual of it is an example of society's decadence. The cops get away with this (and whole hell of a lot worse) is another example of why police unions make the UAW look weak and ethical in relative comparison.

PSA: If you're so drunk that you pass out before you're able to pull out of your parking spot, you should have called a taxi.

You go Officer Revenue.

I don't know if you are just being a troll, but I'm sure there are more people killed due to drunk driving than violent crime...
