I got a card designed by a company that believes in driver development. I still don't trust ATi and their driver development. I want a rock solid system, and Intel and nVidia have proven to me time and time again to be able to provide that. I also don't think that comparing a 9500 flashed to a 9700pro to a FX is an appropriate comparision. One can go out of his way to get a flashable 9500 and still not have a guarantee. A 9700pro is $299 today, not $150.

I know/knew that the FX 5800 Ultra would be on par with the 9700 pro, but I didn't want a 9700. It is on par, and the price (up till last week) was the same.

My question is, what does a 9700Pro give me that the FX doesn't?

You have not gamed until you game with AA and AF, trust me.

That's the only way to go I run 4x FSAA and 8x Aniso Quality on ALL of my games.

You know what is funny, you have a Zalman heatsink, and then you have an FX.

I would definetly like an FX if I could get the Ultra cheap. I actually like the look of the cooler. Worst case is I replace it with a quiet after market cooler.

Resolution varies by game I'm sure, as there are plenty of games that are significantly slower with 4x. I tend not to go above 2x AA, just enough to lose the jaggies at 1280. 16x quality AF improves the image quality more overall and has less of a performance hit than 4x AA and 8x AF. Too bad nVidia couldn't implement 3Dfx's AA quality into their FX chips.

Yes, Zaleman cooler, its performance is better than the stock Intell Boxed HSF. My 2.0A at 2.4 is 2C cooler with it even with teh fan turned all the way down.

No not a Dell case, its an Evercase. Newegg has them here. You will see the fan bracket if you click the link.

I've built a couple of thousand PC's over the last 10 years, and its one of the best cases I've ever seen.

When not 3d accelerating the FX is nearly silent. The system is not any louder with it until I start a game. Then its like hold your ears.
