hey guys i posted on this ot forum a few weeks ago when i was buying my new powerbook (well it was slightly used but its new to me and my first apple)

this thing seems pretty sweet some stuff is sort of hard(er) but maybe thats just b/c ive used a pc with windows my whole life. watching dvds is sweeeeet.

for filesharing purposes i downloaded acquisition and that seems like a nice little program - one problem i have is that some avi files dont play correctly and i dont know how to fix that b/c apple seems to want to open all video files with quicktime which is cool but sometimes it doesnt have the correct codec? whats the workaround? im sure osme of these files would work on a pc and that they arent corrupt so thats what i was wondering. (btw is it possible to watch fullscreen on quicktime?)

hmm what else, ichat is a cool program but i dont like the fact that you cant have groups set up - multitasking is pretty awesome if you ask me and the total ease of use is pretty cool too ... not to mention girls comment on it everytime they enter the room (which when your a guy like me anything helps hah)

so any advice on how to pop the collar of my mac would be def appreciated !!!

the avi files that arent playing right are either divx or wmv. I think you can get divx for mac, although you might have to download windows media player to get the wmv codec.

You can use it to keep stacks of papers from flying away when a breeze blows through

I don't get it... does it make low budget films with horrible actors look like the next LOTR? I'm pretty sure its the same no matter what format it's viewed on.

Just some random good programs:

Proteus: The closest you'll get to Trillian on the Mac(including that it's not entirely free)

BBedit Lite: Discontinued, but a great light-weight text editor

Konfabulator: Just get it, you'll thank me later

Poisioned: Kazaa for the Mac

Azureus: Ok, this is cross-platform, but you need a good BitTorrent client, and this is it

LaunchBar: A handy utility to make starting different programs easy

Slashdock: A good RSS reader

Microsoft Office 2004: Because life isn't complete without Office

VLC: Already stated

Get SideTrack to add scrolling capabilities with the side of your touchpad. You can also set corner taps to emulate other mouse buttons.
