Hybrid is wise choice, I bet they will actually retain value unlike all other Fords.

MSRP is $8000 more than a non hybrid, I'm not sure it's financial wise.

Considering the ridiculous tax credits and rebates you get for buying a 'green' car, the gap is much more narrow.

How much is the tax credit? The rebate is $1700(?) but as dud mentioned you may be able to negotiate that down as you should have a larger selection of non-hybrids.

Technically I qualify for the $3400, I put a down payment and had a verified order before March 31st.

As far as price goes, if I would have gotten a different 2010 Fusion, it would have been the Sport Edition, which with the SAME exact options as my current hybrid would have been ~$500 less. At that point the choice was easy. Hybrid for me.

And as a point of craziness, I'm at 350 miles on this initial full tank of gas, and I still have more than a half tank, at the rate I'm driving, I will hit half tank a little north of 400 miles. And the engine isnt even broken in yet. Went to my parents house for mother's day dinner and between the two trips averaged almost 53mpg. Thats just sick.

Sounds like it is going well

Whenever you get the chance to fill the car back up, please let us know the "actual" mpg for the entire tank. I don't trust indash computers as they always overestimate in my experience. But still 700+ miles isn't that bad on a single tank...

How are you driving it? If you're just holding up traffic and take 2 miles to accelerate up to 50, the results are much less impressive...

personally, i don't trust the onboard computer to accurately determine MPG. my passat is off by 4-5MPG easily. just do the standard method - miles traveled / gallons taken to fill

Very nice looking car. The only thing I don't like is the ugly chrome grill, I am not a fan of chrome.

No I don't take forever to accelerate, I usually get up to speed and then let my foot of the gas so electric kicks in. Lots of pulse and glide actually(aka coasting at speed). To and from work today I averaged 44.9mpg with really nasty rush hour traffic going both ways. I'm just at 450 miles and have about 40% of the tank remaining.

When you are driving and someone is in your blind spot this little indicator glows bright orange to warn you that someone is in your blind spot. Both passenger and driver side mirrors have one.

if it works the same as the mazda one it'll also have an audible tone if you have your indicator going that direction as well

that's awesome. is that in every ford/mazda or an option?
i feel safer passing fords now.

Welcome to the club, Soon you will really forget what side of the car the gas cap is on. Monthly fill ups have that effect.

I learned something recently that was so simple and basic that I was actually somewhat embarrassed.

In this pic,
http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/DeathBUA/IMG_1315.JPG

Look at the gas gage on the right. See the little arrow pointing to the left next to the gas pump symbol? That indicates which side the gas filler is on. GM does this and I now see that Ford does too. I have no idea if all car makers do this or not.

I don't know how long they've been doing this, but I just discovered it within the last year.

LOL, I always have to pop my fillup lid before I pull in, mine is also on the right, which happens to be the same side as the gas gauge. That alone will help me remember.

What's the actual speed for switch over from EV to ICE? My wife's Escape it's around 35mph which sucks since most of the roads are at 40mph in the area. I heard the Fusion had the switch over at a higher speed, which would make sense since it's lighter.

Very slick, I'm glad to see Ford is making a hybrid that's actually visually appealing. These look much better than the Prius IMHO.

I don't understand the people saying the car looks ugly; to me this Fusion model looks pretty sweet. To each his own I guess.

The switchover is supposedly 47mph according to Ford. I've gotten it up to 46 mph in all electric and held it there for a good half mile. Makes it nice since most of the road I drive at 35-40 mph.

On another note my long term MPG is VERY slowly rising. Up to 42.8mpg, which is up .2mpg from a couple days ago.

Also on an MPG note, I'm officially at a quarter tank of gas remaining. So far on this tank of gas, 558.4 miles.

I'm going to drive it until it says I've got less than 10 miles remaining on the tank.

I challenge you to an achievement of 1000 miles per tank. With a bit of prep it should be duable.

Well I'll take your challenge, it might take a couple months until the engine is broken in, but it is definitely possible. As it stands I'm on my first full tank of gas and at 605 miles with about 100 more to go. On top of that my fuel economy is steadily rising.

To reach the 1000 miles I need to average about 58MPG. Definitely doable, as it stands now I can usually get about 52mpg to work and back. We'll see what the car can do once temperatures get warmer.

Consider that you can negotiate a much better deal on a non-hybrid then the hybrid ... the gap is probably considerably more. You have to drive a LOT of miles per year to even break even over a non-hybrid. For me, personally, it makes no sense as I drive only about 6K miles per year.

For most people (except taxi drivers for example), it's almost impossible to make up the difference in price premium for a hybrid over a comparable gas-powered vehicle through gas savings. At 20k miles per year, it takes close to 30 years to absorb the difference.

From what I've read, the Civic Hybrid and Escape Hybrid are two vehicles which do make sense from a financial perspective since the price premium is not as large.

Regardless, congrats OP. I love the styling of the Fusion and it's great that it drives nicely.

While the Arrow is a fairly convenient thing on the gas guage to tell you which side the filler is on, If one were to look, the arrow isnt what originally signified what side the filler was on, it was instead the gas pump... the arrow is new, the gas pump was always labeled to oe side or the other and just was more difficult to discern.

I thought about picking up the Milan hybrid, it seemed to be only a few bucks more. But most of my driving is highway (100 miles a day) and I didn't think I'd make up the difference at the pump. Looks nice!

Thank god the center console isn't stupid like a Toyota. You can't use the damned radio in one without looking at the damn touchscreen.

Honda Civic does 40 MPG+ on the highway. (not hybrid).

So over the weekend finally reached the point of needing gas. Or so I thought. The miles to empty lied. I had almost 2 gallons of gas left when I filled up. Hopefully it'll get more accurate as I drive it. But anyways get 678.3miles on 15.657 gallons. Not too bad considering at least 300 of those miles were highway.

With the new tank, I've gone 125 miles and my fuel display shows as one notch below full.

And @markgm, what do you currently drive?? And whats the mileage.

With the Fusion Hybrid if you set the cruise control and average between 60-65MPH on the highway you can easily touch 40MPG+
