I havent seen all the options on the 2405 but i imagine a bit of video setting tweaking and a color adjustment on the monitor should bring it up to speed.

I agree with the default colour settings being different, but I'm not so sure that the 2405 CAN be altered to match the 2005FPW. Not according to Riptide in the 2405 thread on HardOCP anyway. He seems to think you can make alterations, but you can't get rid of the washed-out look.

I would love somebody here to prove me wrong though!

How's the "ghosting" compared to 2005? Did you ran any demanding FPS game?

Played farcry and didnt notice any ghosting at all. I really never had ghosting issues on the 2005 as well.

As for 2 inputs showing 1/2 screen.....ill have to try that out tonight.

im running the atix850xt and gaming at 1900x1200 is a breeze. Im guessing running any card below might give you issues?

Oh.....as for the brightness.......it came out of the box with brightness set at 1/2. I put the brightness to the max and now it looks very similar to my 2005. Ill take some pics right now and post them.

Excellent, looking forward to seeing your pics!!

How's the screen coating on it? Does the picture just look like a 2005FPW but just much bigger? Also, no dead pixels or backlight bleed?

Screen coating is the same as the 2005. 2405 is just bigger like you mentioned. No dead pixels and no backlight bleed.

Here are some WoW (World of Warcraft) which i play at 1900x1200
WoW 1
WoW 2

I think that you could remedy the "washed out" look (still looks fine to me, almost even with the 2005) with DVC on nVidia cards. Sure if you have an ATi card you'd probably still be outta luck, but maybe that'd be a reason for ATi to get a similar feature.

It doesn't seem like its too hard to get things to look very vivid and colorful in games and movies (where the software has its own options), but the desktop seems a little trickier. I think that if you tinker with color settings you can get it to look just fine.

vaccarjm, can you actually post some more photos of the screen? Perhaps with some games like Far Cry and WoW running on it (especially WoW). You took a really good photo originally, so if you could do the same I'd really appreciate it.

Btw, I caved in and ordered one people. Could take 1-2 weeks to arrive though. I'll post a comparison review against the 2005fpw when it does

Hey there, darksword! Any chance of you posting some pics too?

You dont need a dual link card. Thats for the Apple 30". If I remember correctly.

I plan to run some benches next week comparing my 2005FPW at 1680x1050, to my 2404FPW at 1920x1200 to see just how much of a hit it takes. Assuming I get home by then.

Its not too bad, I actually have that chair (that the kittys are on) turned slightly, tilt the keyboard a bit and its alright. I like being able to see the TV and LCD at the same time without having to twist my neck around.
My next desk I'll have it straight on though. I could do it on this one easily with a LCD.
But this way I have a lot of deskspace for a book or papers.

Good to know about the dual link card.. I'm really glad since I invested in this gen fairly deeply.

I'll be especially interested in the benches. I'm pretty confident in SLI, I've seen it pushing up to 2048x1536 effectively in HL2.
I was more worried about needing dual link.

I hope this 24" is the end of it for a bit... I dont think I really need (or want to keep a PC capable of gaming with) a 30".. thats getting almost as big as my TV.

I can pass this 2005 off to my wife, but I dont have kids.. so no one else to pass the 2405 off too if another definitely better one comes out soon after again.

That said, I think I have to have the 2405. Might hold off for a few weeks waiting for things like Ackmeds assessment.. but otherwise I'm in.

I'm not sure if I will as you did.. because the 2005 isnt small in the "old world" of CRTs..

but now that LCD has taken over for sure (I think this is enough ).. our expectations might be changing..

could you IMAGINE how large of a CRT that thing would be? And its so miniscule.
I'm still like 'whoa' that I have a 20inch display on such a small desk.

Kittahs!

Looking at your case - you sir, need some cable management. Break out the zipties!

I agree. I have been waiting for the DFI to be released, swap that one in and then do all the organization work. But I'm not so sure if I even care to get the DFI and do a mobo swap now... once I decide on that I'll clean up this one or do it when I get the DFI in.

That link posted is my dream to have mine look like.
But I have alot more wires used than he does, I've got that extra SLI plug that goes to the motherboard for stability, two plugs going to an adapter to a video card, two other plugs going to the OTHER adapter/video card.. it makes a big difference between that rig in the link to mine.
But mine could def be alot better

I'll be updating the pics with the 2405 and DFI or not (depending on what I do there)

FWIW I believe someone here (ohnnyj, I believe) posted a thread a while back about running a bunch of games at 1920x1200 on a 2x6800GT rig. The monitor was a 24" widescreen Sony CRT.

Edit: And like the previous poster said, 1920x1200 is possible (although the limit) for single-link DVI.

Wow, your memory is really good. Yes, I do in fact have a 24" Sony CRT that I game w/at 1920x1200 (at least when the game supports it) and it is beautiful. I found that the sweet spot for SLIed 6800GTs in HL2 to be 1920x1200 2xAA 16xAF. I pull over 100 fps most of the time and it can drop into the 40s with heavy action. The only other games I have tried so far are The Sims 2 and Homeworld 2. Sims looks great, you just have to modify a text file to get the res to show up, but Homeworld 2 doesn't like the resolution but I can play at 1680x1050 w/4xAA and all is well.

You can still check out some pics of how it looks here at my site, I can post some of other games if wanted.

Thanks there housecat, it is pretty awesome and worth it IMO. I had been hobbiling along on a 1.4 T-bird w/GeForce3 for a while so it was nice to finally turn on all the good stuff. There is always room for improvement, however, I'm sure if nVidia and/or ATI can put some SLIed next gens together we will be seeing insane fps at insane settings no matter what is going on onscreen. Can't wait to see what they are up to.

I can tell you that you should be placing your bets on the NV50 on being one SICK GPU. Its a whole new core.

They are partnered with Sony, so that means hella cash for R&D.. and they are fabbing it in the Cell fabs that Sony owns.

NV got one killer deal there.. much better than partering with stingy MS.
MS wouldnt break bread with the Xbox

Needless to say, I'm popping dual NV50s into this SLI rig

That's what I am talking about. I knew that they had signed this deal with Sony and I have been saying it would be awesome if they somehow incorporated some of the Cell tech into their next GPU. Imagine a mulicore GPU running in SLI.

Ya. Not to mention these are the fabs that IBM and Sony dumped billions into (and I think toshiba, not sure)..

anything that can be used across platform will be.
If it werent for this Sony money, we'd prob be getting a pumped up NV40 (not a BAD thing, look how long the pumped up R300 lasted.. and people think anything based on the R300 is God's gift to video cards still).

NV really dropped the dice with the FX (they even admitted it).. but boy are they really smoking lately with SLI, NF4, NF4 for Intel... when the boys from california put their mind to it.. damn watch out.

I just hope they don't spend too much time focusing on the PS3 graphics chip and not pay attention to us PCers.

its being cross developed.. we as pc users can only benefit from the cash sony is peddling to nv (its an enormous amount of cash, otherwise they wouldnt be scrapping the NV40)

i'll prob end up with 3 NV50s, a PS3 and SLI

boy, NV is getting almost as good as walmart at moving their product!
my wife thinks im crazy, but i dont have any other pricey hobbies so why not?

if it feels good, do it, right?

ps. you sound like me. i ran a fairly crap rig for a long long time.. and just recently decided to get back into things.. feels good to max out settings and try all the goods doesnt it?
i went from a 1700+/GF4 4200128mb to this.. quite the difference.. i became a MUCH better player in CSS..

How does the vertical height of the display screen compare to that of a 21inch crt (20 viewable).

I held off the 20inch widescreen because it would be so much shorter then the crt im used to, wondering about the 24inch being hopefully about the same size.

Well.. its a done deal. Paid for mine today.. got it for $900 shipped, no tax.

Assuming I get to come home this weekend, Ill have it up and running and try to bench both LCD's. If I dont get to come home, Im going to have to wait two more weeks. And have a sad wife and kids to boot.

Going to bench it on a X850XT/PE, 3500+ Whinchester, and 1gig ram.
