You think if I called DELL, they would credit me the difference on what the price dropped? I'll probably try after I get off work.

$719 on the Dell
- $199 ( 25% )
- 35 stackable.

$564..

My price:

$799
-$199 (25% Delf)
-$150 (AMEX stackable)

$450 shipped

Display looks great, but best price I'm seeing on Dell site is $674.

Thanks in advance for any info on how to buy one in that ballpark!

Two searches on Ebay my friend. One for "Dellf" and find the %25 off LCD monitors coupon. Then one for "AMEX Dell" for the $150 off. I'm not sure if the %25 Dellf coupons are still going on, but I know there are some AMEX coupons that are on ebay that are good till the 15th of January. I paid $50 for the AMEX $150 off, and like $1 for the %25 off one.

Wow, $564 shipped is amazing. I just caught that. That is friggin amazing. Some 19" monitors go for near that price.

Got me a 1505FP UltraSharp on the way...15 incher, can't wait. Say what you want about Dell's systems (I personally think they're crap), but their monitors are damn good for the money.

I'm in the UK and really wanted a good widescreen monitor (I play tons of games, I watch a lot of movies, and I also do a bit of graphics work every now and then), so I bought a 2005FPW, even though they're bloody expensive here.

The best deal I could find was £489 (including VAT and shipping) on eBay UK. That's about $923.

Oh well, I'm sure I'll cheer up again once this badboy arrives next week!

OK...Final deal looked like this

$749.00
-$187.25 (25% off-- $2.99 via eBay)
--$150.00 (AMEX discount certificate)
$411.75

AMEX cert stacked with 25% cert....although it cancelled out a $40 off code I'd entered (guess it picked the highest one..) I paid $81.00 for the AMEX cert on eBay(ouch), but even with that I got monitor for under $500 (plus tax-- thanks Governor ). Shipping was free.

Thanks for the pointers! Can't wait to see my new display!

Joe

PS-- I did not have to use AMEX card to get discount.

I was lucky enough to have it hooked up on a G5 DIRECTLY next to the apple display.

So, just to confirm, the 2005FPW WILL work on a G5? I think I saw on the specs that it's PC only, but I would expect Dell to say that...DVI connection is standard right?

I'm a PC man at heart, but am shopping for a new flatpanel for my work G5.

Man how are you gonna say it looks as good as the Apple's cinema display when Apple's is tco'03 certified. The dell's are tco'99 major difference. I myself am about to purchase an hp L1925, I really wanted a wide screen Dell, but I think its just a start and in the next coming years very well made wides will be common. But yeah the Apple>Dell, just due to the fact that Apple's are TCO'03 and the 23 incher got like a 7.9 on cnet, but then again cnet gave high ratings toward monitors that scored low on their display tests so I wouldn't really trust them that much, I think they're fanboys. One last note, if you got this monitor for under 600 you are damn lucky.

I forgot to ask, I went to compusa and measured a 20 in wide screen imac. The measurements were 17.1" wide 10.3" high in viewable size. How does the Dell measure up.. Really want this thing for movies but I can save big with a 19 in reg lcd for graphics/animation stuff. But the damn dell is so tempting since it can do both and I also dont have an HDTV in the living room like most people. Anyways just measure it for me, I have the HP L1925 waiting for me, but I may throw the extra 180 toward this wide screen...

Worked well on the G5..

Did not get a chance to rotate it though.

Have you seen them hooked up next to each other?

meh, I did some detective work and found out even monitor bezel color can change a TCO`03 rating to a TCO`99 (perticular monitor both distinguished by bezel color both carrying different tco certs) Yeah I may go with the dell, but like there was a post somewhere with a guy having probs with wide screen dvds not filling the screen. You had a pic up that had a movie running full screen i believe . Whats your take with movies thanks, using dvd player from the comp or a dvd player hehe

The movie I had wasn't running full screen, but it seemed zoomed. ( it wasn't ) Have not thrown anything else in yet.

I watch most of my movies on UltraVision Hitachi so I'm not the best person to ask on this.
I have to run to work now, but when I get home I will throw in something more colorful and let you see how it looks.

Good work on finding out of the TCO'03 and 99' deal. Good info to know.

Yeah I keep running into perks on not buying the 2005fpw, but then come across situations that make me want to buy it again :> The 2005fpw looks sweet for movies, I checked out the wide screen 20" imac its pretty sweet of a screen I'm sure the dell is equivalent..Anyways I'm an animation student and staring at a crt for work other than games blows. I really want to go with the 2005fpw but if I can get the same effect for movies on a 20.1" lcd or a 19" lcd why go with it..I know its 16:10 but if bars are to the left/right of the screen then thats just clown shoes, I can compensate with bars on the top and bottom but I want to make use of that wideness :>

"Widescreen" computer monitors have a 16:10 aspect ratio whereas widescreen TV's are 16:9. True widescreen cinemascope movies are 2.35:1 which will have black bars on either display. Some DVD software will allow you to select 1.85:1 pan and scan so a 16:9 movie fills a 16:10 computer monitor with very little cut off. NEVER use pan and scan on a 2.35:1 film, however.

Cheers!

hrm seems to me that a 20.1" regular square screen monitor would make more sense...I have right now a 21" sony crt that is 16 some odd inches horizontally. I wen to compusa yesterday and measured a 20" widescreen apple display and it was 17.1" wide..

You do know when you measure a screen, you do so diagonally.

Or were you just wondering the overal width of the screen.

nah I measured an apple cinema display which was 20.1" viewable exact measurement for the Dell 2005fpw. The results were 17.1" wide 10.3" high my crt which is 19.8" viewable is 16" wide and 13.2" high so im guessing a 20.1" viewable lcd is a little bit bigger than mine. So its a weird toss up..you do though get more from a 20.1" viewable lcd (2001fp) compared to a 2005fpw..But I want to know how the 2005fpw holds up to movies..I mean games are cool, but if you play competively like I did you are crt. And if you play for fun, well there aren't really that many fun singleplayer pc games out right now other than hl2...hrm speaking of hl2 if your screen's viewable area is 17.1" wide and 10." high it must be distorted? since its not exactly 16" wide..
