That seems kind of low for the construction industry, depending on your job and number of hours. I'm assuming full time (40 hours), but if it's somewhat less, that isn't bad.

There at 6:30 every morning to make breakfast burritos/sandwiches and then serve them until 10 minutes before first period. Then work at lunch until 15 minutes before 5th period. Made minimum, which was probably like 6.25 at the time. The other student workers were all my friends though, so it was fun and we always made ourselves huge breakfast foods.

Isn't it awesome when you work with friends?

My second job was at a grocery store as a courtesy clerk. One of my high school friends also worked there and we had a blast. One time we were racing those pallet truck things and I took a sharp turn almost wiping out in the wine area. Man that would have been ugly.

If there weren't any store cameras, you could blame it on a crazy old man who ran in the store and push a shopping cart into the win and ran off.

The only racing I've ever done at work was running about 10 feet before jumping on one of the conference chairs to see who could go the furthest. Drunken coworkers often tipped the chairs over on landing and promptly hurt themselves. Bosses were told that we all went "paintballing."

My first job was selling football game programs at the University of Tennessee home games. I made 10 cents per program, probably averaged $8-10 per game - plus we got into the games free (that's why I really did it). Some games (Notre Dame, for example) we'd make $40+. I was 11 or 12.

Wendy's was my first job, learned my lesson to never ever work for a fast food place and not in the food industry unless you are the owner or waiter. After that I worked for a golf course as a grounds keeper.

first "job" was when I was 15 at a pizza place, and I only did it to get to know a girl that worked there. Already had several of my own business ventures in the running since I was 10 though.

You are not rich bitch!

I remember making that much when I was 16 and I was able to get all it back when I filed for income tax. They take so little anyway when you make 200 a week.

Yes, unlike me, you will see more than 58% of your paycheck.

My first job was in a mom & pop computer repair / small business networking solutions shop. Got paid by work-orders, hours were EXTREMELY flexible, pay wasn't so great. It was located in a small town, not a whole lot of business.

First job where I drew a regular paycheck was at a "White Castle" imitator called Jiffy Burger.
$0.65 Hr.!
Started on a Monday, got fired on Saturday after the Manager gave me Friday night off, and the person who was supposed to work in my place didn't show up. (Prettiest girl in High School, I worked Friday Morning for her, she was supposed to work the night in my place but didn't show up!)
Never did figure out just exactly that was supposed to be my fault.

First job, delivering newspapers when I was 11. Made good money, probably equivalent to about $40-50/week today which worked out to about $7/hour. Also sold Christmas cards door-to-door for a couple years until I was 13. Then cut grass in the summers, worked at a car wash, shoveled sand for a sandblasting company, cashier at a convenience store at various times between ages 13-16.

My first job was at a local mom & pop computer store. Made $6 an hr. Looking back now, all the crap I had to do, I was getting raped on pay. I worked on computers, did inventory, did a complete overhaul of QuickBooks so it would actually report profits and losses. The next job I took was when I was 16, making $12 an hr  I was in da money!

Receptionist at nursing home at age 17. And boy did I suck at it. Got payed minimum wage, think it was $6.85/hour at the time, and raked in a whole $100 a month part-time. Worked mostly on weekends alone in the office, staring at a 15" CRT all day while opening the door, answering the 1 phone call a day and doing random office-grunt work (shredding, filing, ugh....). Worked there for an entire 3 years. Now I gotta find a new part-time job...

Cashier ($5.35/hour) - worked there for the summer after my sophmore year in HS, minimum wage. Was the worst job ever.

Grounds Crew @ local country club ($7.50/hour) - worked here for 2 years summer in rest of HS and into college

Undergraduate Research Asst ($12.10/hour) - worked here for 3 years until I graduated college

Graduate Research Asst ($21.50/hour) - worked here for a year until I decided to take a full time job instead

Research Engineer w/ university (~$35/hour) - amazing job, but salary was a little low for me

Contracting with a small defense contractor, 5 people ($110/hour) - stressfull, no benefits, probably wont stick around for more than a couple years.

I am planning on going back to my research job in a couple years, to take a project management job, which should increase my original salary a good bit.

Happiness != money, but there is definitely a trend. At some point you have to sacrifice a little bit of money to get the job you love and plan to do the rest of your life. I could never work the job I have now for more than a couple years.. its way too stressfull.
